Evolve Back Kalahari

We stayed at Gham Dhao for 3 nights at the end of our trip through Namibia and South Affrica , and from the moment we arrived we felt there was something truly special about the place , thanks to the warm welcome from the incredibly friendly staff . We stayed in the Sky Tent and it was really stunning : it was very spacious , beautifully designed and equipped with every comfort while still maintaining an authentic African Feel . The real highlight, however was the Sky Bed , which is accessed directly from the tent . Spending part of the night under one of the most spectacular star filled skies was a thrilling experience . The Lodge is within a private reserve bordering the CKGR , far from Botswana ’s more well known destinations , which we found truly atmospheric . The Lodge itself is beautifully maintained , with several inviting lounge areas and a lovely library . The attention to details is evident in every aspect of the experience. Throughout our three-day stay , we had our own dedicated guide and Tracker; Fagassa was exceptionally knowledgeable, professional and always happy to answer our questions , while the tracker , Chawi was both skilled and great fun to be around : we were joined by Aba , a trainee , who completed a great team . Our wildlife sightings exceeded every expectation : despite the thick bush due to the recent rains we saw kudus, impalas, zebras, giraffes , gemsbok, steenbok , and most memorably three lion cubs drinking at a waterhole with their mother , and also an impressive male lion and two leopard . Everything was enjoyed from a a very comfortable safari vehicle , made even more enjoyable during the cooler hours with blankets, ponchos and hot water bottles. Two binoculars and wildlife guide books were also provided for our use. We particularly appreciated that both our guide Fagassa with Jordan and Thelma , the office and the lodge manager, joined us for meals , creating a nice opportunity for conversation. We also loved the decision to limit WI-FI to the guest rooms , encouraging everyone to socialise and enjoy the shared spaces . And then there was the food…..outstanding ! The three days we spent at Gham Dhao have definitely left us needing a little “recovery diet”, but every bite was worth it . Bush breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea, sundowners were all varied , beautifully presented and very good. Dinner was served in a different location each evening - by the fire in the library, around a boma or on the terrace overlooking the waterhole - making every meal feel like a special occasion . And the cocktails were excellent too . It was our 40th wedding anniversary during our stay and when we returned from our afternoon game drive , a surprise awaited for us at the sky bed : a beautiful arranged sundowner with snacks , wine, gin and tonic and a cake : it was a thoughtful gesture that really touched us. On our third day we did the full day excursion to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve ( CKGR) .

Wow! What a personalised and beautiful safari experience. The Gham Dao lodge and accommodation are very luxurious and well equipped - indoor and outdoor showers, heating, sky beds, coffee machine - just to name a few. The staff are all wonderful - knowledgeable, caring, and fun. Everyone went out of their way to create an incredible and unique experience for us. The Kalahari was very different to other areas we visited in Botswana and we are so pleased we included it in our itinerary. Our bush dinner under the stars and our walk with the San people are something we will always remember. Thank you Evolve Back team!

I spent 3 nights at Evolve Back Kalahari and had an amazing time. It is one of the most beautuful places I stayed. The room was spacious, comfortable and well maintained and I slept one night outside on the sky bed. The staff are attentive, kind and caring, in addition to being lots of fun, and meals are delicious and plentiful, with a good selection. The safaris are excellent; lead by experienced, professional guides and trackers with indepth knowledge of the flora and fauna, as was the walk with the San bushmen. It was a truly memorable experience.

Amazing ambience. Rooms were really large and comfortable. Great hosts. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We were able to see lots of animals, including a whole pride of lions at close range and a group of Giraffes. The safari guide was very knowledgeable and the animal tracking Bushman did a fantastic job tracking the markings on the ground and leading us to the animals. Incredible experience. Kudos to the team that made our visit memorable and spectacular. Planning to go back at some point.

Absolutely unforgettable stay at Gham Dhao Lodge – Central Kalahari Our stay at Gham Dhao Lodge was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the most friendly, professional, and attentive staff, who made us feel completely at home throughout our visit. The food was outstanding – beautifully prepared, delicious, and plentiful. Every meal felt special and exceeded expectations, especially considering the remote and breathtaking location. Speaking of location, the lodge is perfectly situated in the heart of the Central Kalahari, offering a true wilderness experience. We were incredibly fortunate to enjoy numerous lion sightings as well as fantastic game viewing, making each drive thrilling and memorable. The rooms are absolutely stunning – spacious, stylish, and extremely comfortable. The highlight for us was the star bed, which is truly magical. Sleeping under the vast Kalahari sky, surrounded by silence and nature, is an experience we will never forget. Gham Dhao Lodge combines luxury, authenticity, and warm hospitality in the most beautiful setting. We cannot recommend it highly enough and are already dreaming of our return! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovely small boutique safari lodge on the edge of the Kalahari. We had a amazing room with large outside terrace and shower. The staff and guides were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The food was very good any there was plenty of it

There are few places in the world for which words fall short to describe their attributes....One need to just feel the experience being there. The eco-resort Evolve Back, nesting itself amidst the unexplored wilderness of CKGR is one indeed! My short spell stay for 2nights, as if has left an enriching soulful experience of a week long time period. So much to share...so much to say and so much that cannot be expressed actually! In the crudest form (if i may say ) ..... few things that left a deep impression of gratitude in heart..... 1) Where wilderness of nature in a deep silence under the sleepy ocean like sky, unthinkably mesmerizes with the true warmth, hospitality in service staffs ! Amazing people. This is the First property in Botswana I experienced the epitome of professionalism in service level yet naturally flowing out of ppl's heart..?!! Kudos to the management, quality of training and chosing your guys.One can actually feel this ! 2) The essence of true comfort in each of those well equipped so clean hyigene plush 5* stnd rooms having every modern aminities, well thought of for guest delight. 3) As a foodie having some bit of experience in hotels in India & Botswana, I can highly advocate for the Chef, sous Chef and their team at kitchen for presenting with a wide range of both Occidental na Oriental cuisines beside African. Perfect tastes, flavour and well thought combinations of items. Thanks. 4) Every morning and evening you have the resort staffs the house keeping staffs, the game drive team greeting you enthusiastically while on the other hand you get those pack of Lions and their families out in the bushes surprising you with an errie sensation. 5) I highly recommend this property to all international travellers across the globe having high taste and morality to visit without disturbing the serenity and peacefulness of this place in form of disco thek, partying etc... In one sentence this is perhaps the only resort having it's uniqueness in fulfilling senses of small families, pack of friends, lone travellers, artistes, writers & ofcourse honey mooners. Absolutely incredible stay at Gham Dhao. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, every single aspect of our stay was perfect. The location is truly remote but this makes it a unique experience when visiting Botswana and being so close to the Central Kalahari it really separates itself from other locations. Going on game drives with both a guide and tracker is also such an interesting experience that we are glad we got to see this partnership in action. The main lodge and room were both beautiful from the layout to furnishings. We had WiFi in our room, a coffee/tea station and all essential toiletries you may need during your stay. Like all aspects of the lodge, it was the little things that made Gham Dhao special. Indoor and outdoor showers, soaking tub, sky bed, but even a small sand pit on the balcony to walk in the Kalahari sand barefoot from the comfort of your room. Dining at Gham Dhao is levels above the other lodges we visited. Breakfast was fairly standard for early morning game drives, but the options for hot breakfast were unique and offered local flavors. High tea pastries were delicious and fresh, coffee during morning game drives was made in a French press, breakfast and dinner were both served near the fire pit with hot coals under your seat to keep you warm and lunch offered a huge variety to choose from. Every single dinner was something special. The quality of ingredients and culinary skills of the chef are exceptional. Truly 5*. Even before dinner, the bartenders would prepare special cocktails to taste which were delicious. Sundowners were also lovely with a beautiful layout and what seemed like endless drink choices. Another highlight was the sundowner arranged at our sky bed followed by a bush dinner. Again, the thought and care put into these experiences is what really separates Gham Dhao from other lodges. All of this is only possible because of the staff at Gham Dhao. There was not a person on staff that did not genuinely seem interested in us and making sure we had an incredible stay. The lodge is incredibly well managed and honestly I am struggling to find anything to criticize. This lodge is true luxury, with thought and care put into everything they do. You will not see huge herds of animals on game drives, but you will have a chance to see a variety of wildlife in a unique landscape. You will get to witness the insane skill and talent of a tracker and guide working together. You will enjoy incredible meals. You will have beautiful sunsets and sunrises. You will get to experience something truly special and unique. Everything at the lodge made our stay 100% worth it.
