I had an enjoyable stay at Hotel Shikisai, and what stood out the most was the exceptional kindness and hospitality of the staff. They were always welcoming and helpful throughout my visit. The Superior Room was beautifully designed in a minimalist Japanese style, with tatami flooring throughout and a semi-open bathroom that created a very relaxing atmosphere. Having a private onsen overlooking the garden was a wonderful experience in theory, although I unfortunately found a very large spider nearby, which made it difficult to fully enjoy it. The location itself is excellent, offering a peaceful setting surrounded by nature. However, it can be difficult to reach, especially for guests arriving in the evening or at night. Although the hotel provides a shuttle service to and from the station, I only learned from the hotel's website and at reception that it operates just once a day, around 3:00 PM. Outside those hours, the only practical options are the Tobu railway line or a taxi. It would be helpful if this limitation were made more visible during the booking process. The only aspect that disappointed me was the breakfast. It simply wasn't to my taste, and I would have preferred a different style of breakfast. I also found it unusual that breakfast was served at a single fixed time rather than within a time window, as is common in many hotels. Overall, despite a few minor drawbacks, the beautiful room, peaceful atmosphere, private onsen, and outstanding hospitality made my stay a memorable one.

Wonderful stay at Hotel Shikisai Nikko. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly. The guest room was spotlessly clean and cozy. The hot spring was relaxing and soothing. Highly recommend for a peaceful and comfortable retreat in Nikko.

This hotel boasts an excellent location, with stunning views of Lake Chuzenji right from the balcony. The room features both indoor and outdoor onsen baths, making it incredibly pleasant to soak while enjoying the lake view, especially on a clear day. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The room itself is spacious, well-equipped, clean, and tidy. The hotel also provides a convenient shuttle bus service to nearby transport hubs, which is a thoughtful touch.

Clean hotel with open-air onsen. Breakfast with a great view of the autumn foliage, even spotted monkeys! Enjoyable relaxing stay. Lobby also has free drinking lounge, superb!! 👍🏼😊 Free shuttle service to Tobu-Nikko station.

A nice hotel just by the lake. The onsen had a beautiful momiji tree and the view from the room was pretty good. We enjoyed our food and had a good rest overall.

I read the mixed reviews and was concerned about my choice, particularly those which highlighted some concerns on the service, etc. Generally, it's an acceptable hotel. We met friendly and very helpful foreign staff who were sincere. I think mainly because all the staff has to multi-task from the front desk to meals etc, they may not appear very attentive. But we had a good experience with the foreign staff so far, particularly Adihadara. I am not sure if I spelt his name correctly. I call him "Adi" in short. He was eager to help my husband with our luggage and took note of our preference for a table at the window for our meals. The property does appear aged and some apparent wear and tear but their effort to maintain it at this level of general acceptable look and feel is commendable. At the end of our two nights stay, we did have an enjoyable time to chill and relax at the hotel.
