It’s our first time visiting Nikko. The hotel is quite a distance from Nikko station so walking is not an option (take bus 2A/2C) and stop at stop number 11. Then, walk 5mins upslope to the hotel. The friendly receptionist spoke basic english. There were 2 smoking booths at floor 3&4. The onsen(both indoor and outdoor) was a nice experience. As there were few guest, I had the whole onsen all to myself. There was also 2 private onsens which you can book for 2000yen. Amenities were stocked up and I was impressed! Meals were included in the price, and dinner was an experience. Everything closes early here in winter. We were allowed check in at 11am, and proceeded to Kanaya Hotel (500yen) and to Toshogu Shrine (1600yen). We walked around the picturesque town with so many beautiful photo spots! If you’re catching the first train out of Nikko (7:37am), do note there is NO taxi service & breakfast starts at 730am so we had to forfeit breakfast. You have to walk out to the bus stop which comes earliest at 7:02am. Overall, a good first experience in a ryokan.

Traditional Japanese hot spring hotel, the door still uses a key, the room is spacious, the decoration is old-fashioned but clean, you can see the stream outside the window. The hotel has two hot springs, indoor and outdoor, both of which are very comfortable. When checking out, you need to pay 350 yen (I forgot the exact price) after the hot spring, which I personally think is negligible. The room rate includes breakfast and dinner, especially the first time I experienced it, I also had a small hot pot of soy milk cooked into tofu, and the overall set meal tasted good. The reception staff are all quite old, and the service attitude is very good. When checking out and leaving the hotel, we met employees who came to work on the way and greeted us.

A quaint Japanese-style hotel, located on a quiet road. The meals are delicious and traditional. The front desk staff are very friendly. The hotel provides station shuttle service. The overall accommodation experience is very good. I will choose it again next time I have the opportunity to go to Nikko. Stay here.

The hotel had my name incorrectly spelled when posting on the welcoming board and by the room hotel door, such a detail was overlooked is mildly offensive IMHO and the staffs weren’t apologizing when I mentioned it. They are very strict in check out time. So don’t be late. The toilet wasn’t working properly on the morning of my checkout time. The breakfast was average for a ryokan style. I booked a single room but the hotel has received information that I booked a double so the checkin staff didn’t know what to do, such inflexible Japanese way. Finally he said they’ll prepare 2 sets of breakfast for me tomorrow 😢🤗😀😂. The good thing about this hotel is they keep the luggage after you check out and the location is walkable to Nikko attraction (about 10 minutes) near the bus stop from Nikko station (5 minutes hilly walk to hotel/ryokan).

Three generations of parents and children (child 10 years old) stayed here for one night in mid-May. The conditions for this Nikko trip were to have a private open-air bath, a private bathroom in the guest room, and a relaxing Japanese-style room. The bedding in the room felt new and I was able to sleep comfortably, and the unit bath was also clean. The Toshogu area is not far away and can be reached on foot or by bus. When I used it, there were only two other guests. I was able to relax and enjoy the bath without meeting anyone in the public bath. Dinner and breakfast were also served in a private dining room, so you could relax. Two adult women were full from the local Kaiseki meal with beer. The handmade tofu and yuba were delicious. Honestly speaking, I wish they would add one item for children to the children's menu instead of removing a few items from the adult menu. There was a group of elementary school students on a school trip, but the dining and bathing areas were separate. The staff at the inn often worried about this, but it didn't bother us at all. We received warm hospitality during our stay.
