Pretty laid back Inn and comes with Onsen .which was a nice touch. Just need to know that it is 4km away from town centre but local bus costing around 400 yen will help. Suica card or mobile is accepted.

Booked here based on the positive reviews but I don't understand why it was rated so highly. Rooms were noisy, cramped, very dated and very dark: we had keep the bathroom light on. There were no amenities; no water provided, no kettle. There was communal hot water but this wasn't explained to us, we only stumbled on it by accident, and nonetheless this was not available from 10am to 3pm or after 10pm. Would not recommend staying here

The guesthouse is quite a way from Nikko town (10-15 mins by bus / 1 hour walk) but is in a good location for getting to the shrines or to Lake Ashi - there's a bus stop close by. The guesthouse was homely and had 2 private onsen. Our room was comfortable enough although the en-suite was very tiny! The host was welcoming but didn't speak any English which meant we had to communicate by translating on our phones. We booked to have breakfast at the guesthouse, but didn't realise that for booking the dinner we needed to give 24 hours+ notice so missed out!

The full-course dinner and breakfast were both delicious, and our whole family enjoyed the local Nikko ingredients. Regarding the facilities, I think it would have been nice if pajamas or yukata (Japanese-style robes) were provided. The building felt a bit old, but the mountain lodge-style guesthouse had a nostalgic feel to it, which was great.
