The Folly Hotel

After reading some of the reviews i made my booking with low expectations but just needed a reasonably priced bed for the night. Pleasantly surprised room 4 has a view and everything was clean the bed was comfy and a full hospitality tray was available. The only thing missing for me was a haidryer. The walls are thin but there wasn't too much noise the night we stayed. The lack of onsite breakfast wasn't an issue we had a brilliant breakfast with a view at The rocketeer restaurant. The high street is a 5/10 min walk away and the train station and bus stops a similar distance. We parked our car near the golf course without any trouble. North berwick is expensive so £95 somewhere else would get you a lot more but overall we were pretty happy with our stay and would book the same room again (our friend was in room 5 with no view and more noise)

The hotel was a bit awkward to find and it is not staffed which created a problem for me as the message with a phone number to contact anyone was not easy to read (numbers are not clear) I rang a number a few times but got no reply. Eventually I deciphered another number and the guy was helpful and sent someone round with the keys to get in. The room was clean although a bit on the small side but for one night it was adequate.

We have yet to hear from the owner of this property. Even though I emailed him as told to the next morning. Here is our experience. This (hotel) is a bed and breakfast. The rooms are very small and have a very steep stair to the bedrooms. We were told there was parking available, but not that it was on the street. We were then told the kitchen was broken, therefore breakfast would be continental. It was from tesco and there was not even a toaster. The staff were also having to do the ironing in the reception. Then the girls who were just helping out the owner (who was in Spain) left a notice on our room door to say they had an emergency and had had to leave. We the residents were then left in the premises on our own with no breakfast and a note to email the owner for a refund for breakfast and to leave the keys in the room. This is not how you expect a business to be run. Basically the B&B closed down while we were in it.

Plumbing problem so no cooked breakfast. Lady helping out did what she could. On the 3rd day a note pinned to bedroom door informed that hotel had closed and no breakfast available. Even if hotel reopens, I would not recommend.

The room was small. The double bed was small. The bathroom was small. There was very little hanging space. There was no breakfast available at the hotel. The WiFi did not connect to to the internet. There were no tea bags supplied. Horrible narrow stairs to the bedrooms. Thin internal walls and voices could be heard in adjoining bedrooms. The telephone number listed on the hotel details did not work. The only good thing about the place was it’s central location. Avoid this hotel. At £120 per night, it is a rip off.

We booked thinking this was a B&B, however there was no breakfast. This was not mentioned when we checked in! Leaving us to wander around looking for somewhere at 8 o clock! The rooms were tiny but clean but very expensive for a bed for the night

A run down ’hotel’ (according to the website) / ‘B&B’ on the window. No style or character beyond it’s exterior. Worn carpets; a seriously poky room; uneven, creaky floors; a radiator cover unattached to the wall, that almost toppled when caught with a bag in passing; no milk on the tea tray, so no cuppa on our late return or in the morning, first thing. The breakfast was pitiful - thin, tasteless sausages, overcooked bacon and congealed scrambled eggs. Not sure why people compliment the girls’ management/hosting as we weren’t asked how we had slept and no one came near us to ask about breakfast. When I handed back the key, I wasn’t thanked or asked if we had enjoyed our stay. I suspect they know🤔. Clearly, North Berwick can command high prices due to the lovely setting/golf etc but in this case - daylight robbery. One to avoid in future.
