Shoredrive Motel

North Ward|1.29km from Queens Gardens
This place unfortunately looks nothing whatsoever like the photos advertised. I chose it because it was cheap, but the photos showed a modern bathroom and reasonably looking rooms with sinks, kitchenette etc. A modern bathroom is important to me as a lady traveling. I sure did not get this! The room was something out of the 70's with no modernisation. The shower curtain rail was about to fall down, the beds were so old they had big sags in them, the was only a bowl left to wash up in, not one piece of dinner set matched, the decor was so outdated with old tiles in the bathroom and rusted up loover windows, florescent lights (broken outside my unit where I wanted it for safety), an old in the window air-condition unit that worked for one day and rattled so badly I had to get up and turn it off, after this I couldn't even get it to work, an old rusted fan that was probably my saviour in a hot climate, no hand soap supplied and the beds were not remade after 3 days as advertised. From here it gets worse - at 12 midnight I was awoken by yelling and bashing buy a guy trying to get into my unit. I got up to go to the loo and turned the light on - the looser windows would not work as rusted up, and the next thing he was trying to climb in my toilet window. Being on my own I was terrified and did not sleep the rest of my stay, it was a horrific experience. On a plus the staff followed up on what happened, apologising and were very empathetic to my ordeal.

Strand Motel

On the way back from the road trip to Brisbane, where I went out with my son on school holidays, I used Strand Motel for 2 nights and 3 days at Townsville, the last place to stay on this trip. From McKay to Townsville, I drove 390 km north on the Bruce Highway and arrived in about 5 and a half hours, including a lunch break in Bowen on the way. Around 5 pm, the motel called to confirm the scheduled arrival time. Accommodation reservations were made from a certain hotel reservation site in advance. After arriving, I checked in at the office and paid the room rate at the same time. The male staff in charge of check-in was talkative and kind. The parking lot is located next to and behind the building and is available free of charge during your stay. This time I used the Queen Room with a queen bed. The room I stayed in is on the 2nd floor and I enter and exit from the parking lot behind the building by stairs. The rooms are not large at 19m2, but I didn't feel any inconvenience or crampedness even if it was used by two people. Although the oldness was conspicuous throughout the building, the cleaning was firm and I was able to spend comfortably. The room is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave oven, sink, and toaster, electric kettle, and tableware, which is convenient for bringing food and drink. I could see the sea from the balcony of the room. Coffee sets (coffee tea) are provided free of charge in the rooms. The bathroom amenities are simple with only solid soap, and shampoo and conditioner are not provided, so you need to bring them in. There was no cleaning or towel replacement service even if staying consecutive nights. Free Wi-Fi that can be connected from the guest room was fast and the communication condition was stable, so it was available without stress. On the night of the second day of my stay, the low sound of ”boom”, like the sound of the engine operating, continued to ring continuously until after 2 am, so I couldn't sleep easily. I couldn't hear the sound on the first night, so it may have been a coincidence on this day. Strand Motel is located in The Strand in the North Ward district, about 1 km from the city center of Townsville. There are restaurants and cafes around the motel, and there is a large supermarket just behind it, so it is very convenient for eating and shopping. It's also a good idea to take a leisurely stroll along the promenade along The Strand in front of the motel overlooking the sea and Magnetic Island. You can also access Townsville Central City in about 15 ~ 20 minutes on foot.

The location is right on the strand of the beach. The sunset is very beautiful at dusk. It is also very convenient to go to the coffee shop to the supermarket and walk for 10 minutes. Buy all the daily necessities and sit on the terrace to watch the sunset until dusk, which is pleasing to the eyes. As for the service, there is basically nothing except Check In. It's not like living in a hotel in the Asia-Pacific region, with five-star service In terms of price, in terms of 1000 heads, it does not include anything. It is really because there is no choice.

Waters Edge the Strand

On the spur of the moment we decided to stay overnight in Townsville. We looked at many places but really wanted something on The Strand with some views. We decided to check out Waters Edge on the Strand. Went in to see what was available and the lovely Michelle was happy to let me check the 1 bedroom unit out before we committed. It was pretty good but no balcony. Michelle had a studio up on the next level with a balcony but it overlooked the pool so we opted for the first choice. Honestly, the major appeal in choosing to stay was how fabulous, friendly and helpful Michelle was! The unit was nice, although a tad dated. It was obvious there had been some upgrades. The bed was comfortable and having a kitchen, washing machine and dryer was a plus. We enjoyed our stay so much we extended a 2nd night. Only minuses was no balcony, no washing powder and it was very bright at night with light coming through the curtains and the bedroom binds. Pluses - spacious, comfortable, clean, well equipped, central, secure parking and great views. Photos online were accurate so you know what to expect. Would definitely stay again although a higher floor with balcony would be better and also block some of the street light brightness.

Really loved staying here. Room was very comfortable, cleanand spacious. We had a ground floor unit with a peak of the sea. It was very central to shops and restaurants and the waterfront and amazingly quiet. No oven but the cooking facilities were great. The staff could not have been more helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
