Green's Nungwi

The location is a bit off the beach and hard to find. It’s enclosed on a gate and there are no clear signs indicating you reached the place. Once inside, it looks like a garden surrounded by rooms. Breakfast was good but the whole style is simple and basic. I made a mistake in my arrival day which forced me to find another place. It ended up being a better deal in terms of location and environment. Solo travellers may find this place more appealing, not for families. Service and staff were friendly and tried to help.

To the owners of Green's hostel: Since we can't reach you directly without going through hostel manager (who has no authorities at all), we write to you here: We are going forward with the issue of your decision to not refund us. We stayed one night of 14. That was, with no regards to anything else, only because it is impossible to sleep and rest at your hostel, due to that your rooms are not soundproof and also lack of AC/fan. Therefore you did not keep your end of the deal! Your complete unwillingness to be flexible and understanding and the lack of interest of solving this, force us to go further. We are in contact with a lawyer and Vice President Office in Zanzibar, therefore we know that: - We will get all the details of the company and owners since this is going to court. - This can lead to a note for your company - This can eventually get you to loose your work and business permit in Zanzibar. So we can solve it the easy or the hard way for all parties. All the zanzibari we talked to, including authorities and government, think this is very bad of you, this is not the spirit of Zanzibar. We note, with the many one-stars reviews on Google and Tripadvisor, that this is not the first time guests reacted, and you just do not care at all. We think it is important for others to know, how you four foreign owners, treat your customers. It is all about money and greed. The ratings you claim on instagram is not correct.

This is a place you should avoid at all cost. When you book and pay you go into a two-way-agreement where the owners need to own their part of the deal, such as providing what is in the description.  In this hostel they didn't. It looked similar to the pictures, but was not at all that nice.  There were two main issues they don't let you know: • the AC is off from 08.00 am until 19.00 pm . Which means if you want to hang in your room during the day, rest a bit, or even sleep in you don't have any options to have AC or a fan. We though specifically got up and asked for extended ac-time , but its just not convenient at 08.   • The sound from the surroundings. The hostel lies between a local soccer-field where children and youths play and the local village. Nothing bad about that, that's their life and way of living, and we like to see what local life is about and was aware of that when we booked. But - the rooms are not soundproof at all... which means it was impossible to get rest during daytime with all the noises, and with no AC you had to open the windows. At night, same problem - lots of noises, plus the AC which was very loud. So we didn't get any good sleep at all.  Also: • The pool was much smaller than it seemed on promophotos. There were no sunbeds, so hanging there as we planned would not be as comfortable as we thought.  • The power kept going off and on all the time and when the power was off, there was no water. That is fixable.  It was understood that the sounds was a well known problem that many other guest had issued and that the owners know this. Yet they do nothing about it or tell you. Maybe some people don´t bother, but had we known we wouldn´t have booked this place, and defently not for two weeks.  The staff was great, the did the best they could with what they had to work with. No hard feelings for them,. Despite of the great staff we ended up leaving the hostel after just one night. We addressed the issues right away.  We asked for refund, with the owners not holding their part of the agreement. The owners, Swedish ones, said that they can't give us refund because cancellation should have been before 24 hours to check-in. But at that point we didn't know that we wouldn't be able to sleep there. Left with double payment, 2e got help to file a police report and has been recommended and helped by the authority to go to continue to civil court, since the owners refuse refund. they also claim that since we didn't cancel in time the room is now locked fysicly and "there is no way to open it and rent to someone else". And they "can't change it to avaliable on the internet" either. They can take your money though.

Also read the negative comments. Then decide!!! Don't buy the hotel in advance, see and buy. Don't let your holiday be ruined. Don't believe the ratings and comments of this hotel. There is no similarity between the photos and the room. We encountered a shared bathroom and toilet that was not specified during the reservation. The sheets and towels were dirty, stained, and the room air conditioning was inadequate. The street where the facility is located is unsafe and dark. I definitely do not recommend it. There is absolutely nothing to like about the facility. We stayed for 4 hours and moved to another facility. They did not refund our money. They couldn't afford it, they are in a bad situation. Do not pre-pay and purchase accommodation at this property without seeing it.

The guest house is a perfect location to walk around easily and everyone working here is so helpfull and kind I advise to ask them for advise before booking things because they really know the area and they have precious recommendations they are literally here for you all the time if you need . Breakfast area is really relaxing and best place to meet friends in Zanzibar.

Absolutely horrible place! SCAM The pictures you see on the booking websites have nothing to do with reality, the place doesn’t look like that anymore: the new owners left it rundown, shabby and dirty. The owners are on top lying about having two swimming pools in some reviews: not true. Also the yoga studio you see in the pictures: not existing. It’s a scam. The reality is sad: many shabby rooms and one disgusting communal bathroom with poor hygiene in an unkempt “garden”. The rooms are cramped and super hot, mosquitoes everywhere and mosquito nets have holes. The beds are super old and we got back pain. The electricity keeps coming and going and also a whole afternoon, there was no water, so we couldn’t take showers. Of course- this can happen. Especially if your place is in the middle of a slum (which this place is)- but then the owner should explain it nicely and apologise. Nothing like that: the Swedish owner just were unfriendly and gave us a bucket with water. No refund, no nice comment, nothing. Unacceptable. Also the location: it’s a bad area, not recommended for solo travelling women as many drunk local men hang out in front of the unlit front door and harass you with HEY BABY and much worse. As the doorbell of this place doesn’t work, we had to stand in front of the unlit entrance door hammering at the door and it was feeling really dangerous to have to bang for a long time at the door to be let in while this men were harassing us. Then don’t get a shower and go to your basement room to sleep in a really run down bed which makes so much noise that your friend wakes up all the time while your back hurts so much…nice holiday! And WELL, that’s nice for 50 euros a night! overpriced and bad. If this was a really cheap hostel, it would already be problematic but for this price, it’s really horrible, that was not feeling like a holiday, it felt like a prison. We had paid for several nights in advance unfortunately, but we left because we couldn’t take it anymore. Don’t go there!

Sarah what a host! Such a lovely lady, it’s very reassuring as a solo female traveller to go somewhere so welcoming with lovely, friendly and kind staff! A small but cosy hostel. Very close to the beach also! I wasn’t the most comfortable going out alone but in the day there were a lot of people around and at night there’s always motorcycles that sarah can arrange or taxis! The place was so clean, constantly being swept, beds being made, bathrooms being cleaned. Breakfast that was included was amazing! For the value of the stay breakfast included: omelette, toast, fruits, juice and tanzania donuts. Coffee and yea available too! The bed was very comfortable. The towels were decent size. The pillows were fluffy! Overall a fantastic stay, please ignore any and reviews :) I stayed here for 5 days alone and my friends stayed nearby
