A Disappointing Stay – Poor Housekeeping, Basic Facilities and Serious Security Concerns
My stay at The OneFive Osaka Namba was unfortunately a very disappointing experience. While the hotel’s location is convenient for guests who want to be close to Namba’s nightlife, the overall atmosphere, security, cleanliness, comfort and service fell significantly below what I expected for the price paid.
The hotel is situated directly beside numerous bars and clubs, creating a very active and noisy atmosphere late into the night. While this may appeal to some travellers, it made the hotel feel far from a relaxing place to return to after a long day. More concerning was the sense of security. Despite being informed that a key card was required to access the guest floors, access to the hotel and accommodation areas appeared to be possible without meaningful verification or restriction. Given the busy nightlife environment surrounding the property, I found this extremely uncomfortable and felt genuinely unsafe knowing that non-guests could potentially access areas where guest rooms are located.
The room itself also gave a poor first impression. It felt extremely basic and lacked the comfort and attention to detail expected from a hotel at this price point. There was noticeable dust, the air-conditioning was insufficiently cold, and the room had very limited amenities. There was no proper wardrobe, only four wall-mounted hangers, no telephone, and only basic items such as a water boiler and hair dryer. Even the sleeping arrangements felt inadequate, with only one flat pillow provided. Individually these may seem like minor issues, but collectively they made the room feel more like basic accommodation than a comfortable hotel room.
Housekeeping was another significant disappointment. At check-in, I was informed that the room would be cleaned daily. However, when I returned the following day, the room appeared virtually untouched. Apart from the towels and toilet mat being replaced, there was no obvious sign of proper room cleaning or servicing. This was particularly frustrating because it did not match what had been communicated at check-in.
The luggage-storage arrangement after check-out also left me uncomfortable. Although the hotel provided an area for guests to leave their luggage, I did not feel that the belongings were adequately secured or monitored. When I raised my concern, I was advised not to leave valuables inside and was told that the hotel would not be responsible if anything went missing. While guests should naturally take precautions with valuables, this response did little to reassure me, especially when combined with my concerns about access control within the hotel.
The public facilities further contributed to the impression of a very minimal hotel experience. The lobby lacked a proper and comfortable seating area, and there was no toilet available in the lobby. The 10:00 AM check-out time also felt particularly early, especially given the hotel’s location in a nightlife district where guests may return late.
What made the experience particularly disappointing was not any single issue, but the cumulative effect of everything: the noisy nightlife atmosphere, questionable access control, lack of security, basic and poorly maintained room, inadequate housekeeping, minimal facilities and concerns regarding luggage storage.
For the price paid, I expected a considerably higher standard of hospitality and guest care. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and reviews its security procedures, housekeeping standards, room maintenance, luggage-storage arrangements and overall guest experience.
Overall, the hotel felt more like basic accommodation in a busy nightlife district than a comfortable, secure and properly serviced hotel stay.
