Comfort Hotel Xpress Youngstorget

Oslo City Center Oslo|1.47km from Onninen Express
If you're travelling solo and want somewhere handy in the centre of Oslo and aren't too fussed about some usual hotel comforts, then this will tick the box. It's not super expensive but it could also be a bit cheaper for what it offers. The rooms feel like university student rooms, which isn't a bad thing per se. I'm unsure what larger rooms looked like but despite mine having a double bed, 2 people would feel pretty cramped in there. The bathroom/shower was good, no fault there. The bed was comfy but the matress tended to slide around. There's no room service for cleaning up or refreshing linen, they do that on rotations of their own choosing. If you really want that service (which in any other hotel is a daily one) you can request I think. This is fine for 1 night but after a while you feel a bit grimy. I found some clumps of hair on the floor and in an underbed drawer. There's no kettle in the room which is the bare basic that a room should have in terms of amenities so people can make their own tea, coffee or noodles etc. You can buy tea or coffee in reception but it's worth just heading outside to grab something. My room didn't have wardrobe storage but did have wall bracket-hangers which did the job. There were plenty of sockets for charging things. Like I said for a person solo travelling and not wanting a hostel, this place is fine for 1 night or 2. I stayed 3 and it was too long in that hotel and too long in Oslo in general.

Arrived on our ferry from Copenhagen before lunch so left luggage and wandered until checkin was possible. All so good so far. When we came to check in we asked to make sure the room didn’t have feather bedding - assured it was clear of feathers, however when went up to room this wasn’t the case. Went down, explained at which point after many discussions (explaining that I’m allergic to feather bedding over and over (as we had with the booking) I was offered another room which apparently was better (but the guy on reception didn’t seem to understand my question as to whether the new room would be free from feathers ….!) Went up to the room and of course it had feather bedding. We moved all of our luggage into the new room and my OH went down to reception this time and the same guy simply didn’t understand what we were explaining so OH requested another member of staff who did understand second time around. (Later bedding was all replaced which was then fine. ) the surprising thing was they had members of staff on reception whose English wasn’t quite up to basic requests (unusual for anywhere in Scandinavia) (while admitting my Norwegian is non-existent!) The bathroom was possibly the smallest I have ever witnessed, albeit it did have a bath with shower over. All v clean and fully functional. The pool and sauna were ok but a little small, but if you timed it you could use them. Generally the staff were a little slow (perhaps the hotel doesn’t have enough staff currently to service guests?) and service alone would put me off coming to stay here again unfortunately.

Frogner House Apartments- Helgesens Gate 1

It was like Fort Knox to get into as we arrived earlier than the 3p check in. We buzzed outside the building and someone answered eventually to let us into the walkway and small courtyard only to find the door locked to get into the apartments. The guy on the intercom said to press the buzzer, but we pressed everything and still couldn't get in. We saw the cleaners on the ground floor and pounded on the glass until they let us in. The place is a bit low profile on the outside with only a small plaque on the wall with the name on it. It's an automatic check-in with a machine in the foyer. Once we had that sorted out we eventually took the lift (the only time it worked) to our apartment to find a tiny bedroom with a bed pushed against the walls and not room for much else, meaning if you had to get up during the night, the person against the wall (window) had to climb over the other one (like a speed bump) to get out. There is a really small wardrobe, but for travellers no room to put suitcases. The living area is very roomy, so we had our suitcases in there and the kitchenette was good to have. The bathroom unfortunately is super tiny with a vanity, toilet, shower and washing machine squashed in there. The shower was hard to navigate to get in and out as the vanity and washing machine were in the way and you had to juggle both doors to squeeze past. The shower did get blocked at one stage and had to stop mid shampoo to unblock the drain before it flooded the bathroom. On the plus side, the living area was good except we had our suitcases in there (and that became very messy). The kitchen was great and had all the pots and pans and cutlery/crockery needed and it was good to be able to do laundry. The apartment is situated in Grunerlokka where only a short walk away you can access nice restaurants, a park, small convenience stores and lovely shopping. Nearby is Ankerselva River which was really lovely for walks along at the end of the day.

We stayed here for four nights over the Oslo Marathon weekend. We were lucky to have a superior room (only four on each floor by the look of things) and so had plenty of space - indeed our bathroom seemed to be much the same size as the standard room. The bed was very comfy and the room was quiet, with the window facing an internal space. Slept well and pigged out on Sky's coverage of the Queen's death when in the room. Note no tea/coffee/fridge/safe etc in room but all these were available on the ground floor, Breakfast (included in our online offer) was great - the usual Scandi buffet with the only problem being holding back and not overeating. The hotel has a good central location on the west side of central and we found that we could walk everywhere no problem. All in all a great stay and we would certainly consider staying again were we ever to revist Oslo, which I hope we do.

A very nice hotel in a quiet area of the city centre, just a few hundred meters from the royal castle. Short distance to the tram if you want to get around, but also in walking distance to the main street in Oslo (Karl Johans gate). The hotel has modern interior with happy colors, and the staff is service oriented. I love this place! The breakfast is good and is in the restaurant named Café Europa. (The café/restaurant is also worth a visit where they have exceptional great service. They also offer the food as takeaway if you want to eat it in your room.)

Clarion Hotel Savoy has got mixed reviews, but our 3-night stay was really pleasant and I would definitely book it again. The hotel has old-time charm, and though the standard room is quite small (compared to the huge bed, which occupied most of the room), it was functional with a beautiful bathroom. The location of Hotel Savoy in the city centre is excellent and unless you want to explore Oslo on foot, you can easily do it by tram or bus. The best part of the stay was the delicious high-quality breakfast and ”light” dinner, which turned out to be a 3-course meal (warm main, soup and various salads). I don’t eat meat so I just asked the staff member in passing if there was any vegetarian warm-dish option and the next night they had prepared delicious chickpea curry as an extra dish for me. That’s what I call real customer service!😀 Also, the afternoon final (coffee and cake) was a plus in this expensive city. The only (tiny) minuses were a very small selection of TV channels and (in my personal opinion) uncomfy pillows (one gigantic, the other flat and lumpy). But after strolling around Oslo for many hours and enjoying the evening meal, those issues didn’t prevent us from sleeping well in our quiet room facing the inner yard.

Location: The hotel belongs to the city center, within a 10-minute walk to the University of Oslo, the Royal Palace, and the shopping street. The door is the statue of the first picture 🗿. Buy FLY1 tickets directly at the airport, 25 minutes to the National Theater Station, and a 10-minute walk to the hotel. Room: The room is very small and well-equipped, even with an ironing board. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures. The bathroom has floor heating, which is very comfortable. The balcony is very large, 3-4 square meters visually. Food: The breakfast was very generous, I didn't shoot the whole thing, and a bunch of sausage bacon and meat for the English breakfast. I have breakfast at the hotel every day and it's great. Service: Five points for service, the staff will greet you when they see you, and the room attendants are all. Price: It is not expensive in Norway. Considering the location, facilities, services, etc., I think the price/performance ratio is OK.

The unit met all of our basic needs with four twin beds, couch, kitchen with basic supplies, fridge, microvawe, stove, dishes and supplies, large bathroom with shower, and automatic shades for the early morning sun. But very limited lighting and black interior made it very dark and hard to see. Washer and dryers on each floor are free but took us several hours of running and eventually we dried clothes in our unit by hanging them. Cannot say enough nice things about the neighborhood. Mainly Pakistani, North African, East African and Arab. Amazing and cheap produce and food everywhere, Walking distance to Oslo Central train and bus stations. It can get a little grimy so exercise caution but felt pretty safe.

The location is great, right in the centre of Reykjavík, 5 minutes walk to reach the main attractions. The room was clean and tidy and there was a complimentary breakfast offered which was great.
