Crowne Plaza Panama

I usually stick to only positive reviews however, I would not recommend it this hotel to anyone and don’t understand some of the effusive reviews. It looks nothing like the photos. Our room smelled of mildew and the toilet wouldn’t stop running. The room was stark with chipped paint and cracks everywhere. The lights flickered as they floundered on the night stands. Only one elevator was working and lights were completely out on the first floor giving the appearance of being abandoned. Outside the hotel, the curb entrance was littered with empty plastic bottles and food containers. Customer service was nonexistent and unprofessional. We are seasoned, adaptable travelers and enjoy all types of people and experiences so there were zero demands on our part. They also advertise a free shuttle to the airport but were told that was “ only on the internet” and not real. If you choose to stay at a Crowne Plaza, stay at the one near the airport. It’s gorgeous and clean.

The most outstanding part of our experience at this hotel was the customer service. I believe that it is not the absence of problems that make an establishment great, rather the ability to address them in a professional manner that is impressive. We had a number of issues. First, we were assigned to the wrong room but that was changed within minutes. The lamp didn't work and that was fixed quickly. There was a musty smell in our room from the high humidity but that was addressed by giving us a dehumidifier. The toilet stopped working and that was fixed within minutes. Every single employee was courteous, kind and helpful. The atmosphere was very positive. The breakfast buffet was amazing. Our room was cleaned every day and we had a great relationship with the housekeeper. The only thing that was worrisome was that the phone in our room did not work and they were not able to have it repaired during our stay but I believe this was out of the control of the hotel. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a hotel. I am a terrible sleeper when I travel and I slept well every night. Our experience may have been unusual with some of the problems. I would only recommend that a room is checked thoroughly to make sure everything is working well before guests check in. However, this did not negatively impact our stay. We absolutely loved this hotel. The people make it great! The only thing I didn't like was the terrible odour from garbage I think, that was a deterrent for us to be outside at the pool. We rented an apartment style suite. There is a grocery store a short walk away and the hotel has a laundry room at no charge.

I stayed only one night in this hotel, the infrastructure is dated, mirrors in the bathroom have black spots but the worst is no hot water in the shower. The basin had hot water but in the shower it was cold. I reported it to the front desk who said they would have someone look but that never happened. The staff were friendly, the breakfast buffet was nice but the hotel rooms really need a makeover. With so many other hotels in the vicinity, I moved out of the Crown Plaza and into another hotel chain nearby
