Amaya Beach, Pasikudah, is a beautiful, beach hotel. On arrival, the reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were settled into our room quickly and efficiently and we were sipping a cocktail before we knew it! (once we’d hunted the bar staff down). We had a sea view room, with a terrace, which was less than a two minute walk to the beach and our room was huge! (we did upgrade and I really recommend doing so, if you can). The restaurant staff were friendly and the food was delicious! The bar staff became more friendly over time but for some reason, they were not forthcoming in serving us and we had to keep asking for drinks, rather than being asked if we wanted more. We did find this frustrating at times and rather baffling (did they not want to sell drinks and make tips?). There is a small shop and an ATM about a 5 minute walk away from the hotel, which was useful but other than that, we didn't venture outside the hotel, so I can't comment on the surroundings (other than to say, there was a huge amount of litter, which we hadn't seen and subsequently didn't see, anywhere else in Sri Lanka). We stayed at this hotel for four nights, with the aim of reading, swimming and generally relaxing and that is exactly what we did, and Amaya Beach provided the perfect setting.
