Pingyao Kangqianji Mansion (Pingyao Ancient City Scenic Area Store)

We were so lucky to choose this hidden gem of a guesthouse for our first stop in Pingyao during our Shanxi trip! **Location:** It's situated perfectly between the city gate and the main commercial street, making it convenient for entering and exiting the city (the ancient city is quite large). It's also a short walk to the commercial street, yet wonderfully quiet at night – an ideal balance of accessibility and tranquility. **Ambiance:** This is a traditional courtyard-style guesthouse with an antique charm. The decor is thoughtfully done. The rooms, while not huge, are very clean and equipped with comprehensive, relatively new facilities. **Service:** Absolutely superb! The customer service staff contacted us via WeChat in advance. Once we arrived at the parking lot (parking is difficult in the ancient city, but the hotel has its own!), a dedicated staff member drove us into the city for check-in. When they learned we wanted to dine out, one of the young men from the guesthouse even drove us to a very popular restaurant in the ancient city, Kang Qun Ji (yes, it's affiliated with them!). The best part was skipping the queue, and we even got a discount after our meal. They also helped us find a tour guide. When we were tired from exploring, a car was again arranged to take us to dinner. What truly touched us was when we left our child's cutlery at the restaurant one evening. The next day, after we checked out and went to Shuanglin Temple, the young man from the guesthouse went to retrieve it for us and delivered it all the way to Shuanglin Temple. We were incredibly moved by their kindness.

Had a great stay! The facilities, including the environment, were excellent, and the smart assistant, Xiao Du, was super convenient. I was very satisfied with the hotel service; they explained the ancient city's routes and recommended some great restaurants. The breakfast buffet was also a nice touch. I'd definitely come back here if I have the chance and highly recommend this hidden gem of a guesthouse to everyone.

It's a duplex, and the kids loved it. Although it's a guesthouse, it's clean and hygienic, seems newly renovated this year with no strange odors, and it's quite smart. We stayed right in the ancient town. We parked our car in the designated (free) parking lot outside the town, and the hotel arranged transfers, which were prompt, warm, and thoughtful. Breakfast featured local specialties. There are also three restaurants, and I highly recommend the tofu balls and the vinegared beef – the beef was tender and the portion was generous.

The biggest pleasant surprise at Kangqianji was the mattress and pillows, and overall bedding – incredibly comfortable! The exterior is charmingly antique, while the interior is modern, including the in-room water purification system! Thumbs up! No need to worry about any residue left by previous guests. They also have a laundry room, which is a real rarity for a guesthouse in the old town, and even a drying area for clothes. The hygiene, both inside and out, is impeccable! Highly recommend.

I arrived in the ancient town just in time for the rain, which was lovely and cool, not hot at all. Staying in the owner's century-old courtyard building was truly unique. Luckily, the hotel's washer-dryer combo was amazing – super convenient! I could wash my wet clothes right away, and there was even a garment steamer for wrinkles. Honestly, this is the most well-equipped guesthouse/hotel I've ever stayed in. I genuinely recommend it to everyone; it's comfortable, cozy, and offers incredible value for money. Traveling to Pingyao with my family, including elders and children, this time, choosing Kangqianji Mansion was definitely the right decision. We booked a three-story duplex for three adults and two children. There's a bed on the first floor, so there was plenty of space for everyone, and it didn't feel cramped at all. The room was fully equipped with XiaoDu voice control; you just had to say a command for the lights and curtains. It even had a smart toilet, making our stay incredibly comfortable. What really impressed me was the hotel's dedicated shuttle service. We didn't have to drag our luggage across the bumpy stone roads of the ancient city, which was a huge relief for the elders. The breakfast, included in the room rate, was also very much to our taste, and all the disposable amenities were fully stocked. The butler was available 24/7. Even though it's not on the busiest street in the ancient city, the sightseeing cart made getting around very convenient. I truly recommend this for families traveling together.

Had a great stay and ate really well! I especially recommend their 'You Cha' (a type of savory tea/gruel); I even bought 5 bags to take home. It's super convenient for my kids' breakfast before school or for me before work – just add hot water! The hotel isn't big, but it has everything you need, like a laundry room, which is really handy. Honestly, this is the most comfortable guesthouse I've ever stayed in.

I've been to Pingyao Ancient City many times, but this was by far the happiest stay and dining experience. Their courtyard is traditional, but the facilities are smart. All the staff are welcoming with smiles, and the cleaning staff, a young woman, keeps everything spotless. Their restaurant has an open kitchen, so you can eat with peace of mind, and the food tastes great. Seriously, staying here is a guaranteed good experience.
