Pointe St-Mathieu has a very end of the world feel, and it is not called Finistere for nothing. The Hostellerie de la Pointe St-Mathieu is very modern and we were in a well-appointed Superior Double room with windows on three sides [#6], which was 159 euros plus breakfast at 24 euros pp [£181 in total for B&B]. They have both a Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant and their Bistrot 1954; however since the former was closed the night we were there, we ate in the latter. Parking is under the hotel with a Tesla destination charger (both payable) or in the large public car park opposite. We charged at Brest so we choose the latter. Our room was very modernist [read: trendy] and seemed curiously clinical and not especially homely. The duvet had obviously been specified for when the temperatures are sub-zero, and our (north-facing?) balcony must be a chocolate teapot nine months of the year (including now). The room was a bit hot and stuffy and when we mentioned this on checkout they breezily told us that all the rooms in that wing had that problem. So fix it! The food in Bistrot 1954 was not bad and we both had their 35 euro menu. We ended up drinking all wines by the glass, which we thought were good value. Dinner came to 105 euros [£92]. Can't comment on the gastronomic restaurant, which we would have eaten in had we not mucked up the dates (closed Mondays). The breakfast was a highlight, with a great spread, plus great fried eggs and bacon. Would we stay here again? Unlikely, having now been to this windswept corner of France. But it is probably a great place to stop for lunch if you are touring Brittany.

The dinner in the Bistro was not good, no choices. The Techno Music in the bar was awful, like in a disco. The prices in the upper limit conserning the whole packege Fritz Egli, MD

The setting is idyllic. From the outside, the architecture blends perfectly with the traditional building style. Inside, the modern vibe is appropriately beach front. There are good (if not exceptional) bistro and gourmet restaurants on site. The price point is reasonable. Perhaps because I spend 70 or more nights in mostly 4 star hotels each year, and have done so for decades, I am a bit attuned to what makes a traveler comfortable and what does the opposite. Our room here was spacious, and on some points rather comfortable, i.e. bed, desk, some of the lighting. But in other respects, there were some very annoying flaws. Having a narrow water closet, with an in closing door with 2 inch clearance to the end of the toilet is stupid, unless you are catering to two dimensional clients. There is a fairly large enclosed shower. The door opens outward, blocks the towel rack, and most significantly, there is a 10 inch drop to the bathroom floor. At best, this is odd, and at worst,a real safety hazard. There would be plenty of room to put a hook at the far end of the shower for a towel. Otherwise, are you supposed to hand one on the door knob? A shower gel bottle with a tendency to get stuck. A bright light near the sink, a good idea. Placing it on one side, so the other side is in perpetual shadow, not so smart. With the spacious floor space, you have two large teardrop chairs really low to the floor. So low, you might as well sit on the floor. Getting in and out of the them is excruciating unless you regularly practice yoga, and not everyone does. You have the usual expected niceties; flat screen television (although no English or other "foreign" language channels. A large armoire, with those we don't trust you hangars you have to pull out of the sockets. A coffee maker, safe, minibar. A better than average breakfast in the bistro, and at 24 Euros per person, that might be expected. Plenty of free parking if the attractions across the street are not at capacity. A small underground garage for hotel guests too. So, a rather good hotel that could be better.

Lovely place, super quality of service, food, room! I highly recommend that hotel located in the middle of nowhere. We had dinner at the Bistro 1954, food is really original, service young and casual.

We had originally booked and paid for a stay here in July 2020 as part of a driving tour of Brittany but couldn't travel due to Covid, this was the only hotel on our trip that didn't refund the prepaid money, but we understood so when we reorganised our trip for this year we just used the credit towards our stay and there was no problem with it being deducted from the bill. Having read other reviews before we travelled, we were a bit unsure as to what we would find. This hotel has an amazing location, right opposite the lighthouse, but the room we stayed in was poorly ventilated, only by having the door onto the balcony open did we get any fresh air, there weren't any windows that could be opened. I guess this isn't a major problem normally but we were there when the temp hit 40C and as the hotel doesn't have air-conditioning we relied on the door being open to give us some relief from the temperature especially at night, unfortunately when the wind blew which it did for a couple of hours one night we had to shut the door as it was banging and we were worried it would damage something if we left it open. Whoever designed these rooms must have thought air-conditioning was being installed because you would have put in opening windows otherwise. The bar area is very good, staff were friendly and the lady at breakfast was very efficient and well organised. We used the pool and found this to be very clean and big enough to be able to swim a length. I don't think we'll return as on our 3 night stay we visited most of the area, but please think about improving the ventilation of your rooms. We did eat in the restaurant one night and had the set menu and found it good quality and value for money.

Lovely hotel and a great location. Right by the sea with a great view of the lighthouse. The room was massive, with chairs, TV and a super comfy bed. The sauna and hot tub wasn't in use during our stay which was a big shame.

We stayed for two nights with our dog. All the rooms have a great view; either on the light house or if you take the one with balcony you get the sunset. The rooms have different sizes, so chose what fits you best. The breakfast is fabulous! A small buffet where everything is fresh and tasty. On top you can order from the card and the staff is very friendly and efficient. First evening at the bistrot was average. No Vegetarian meal, even when we asked; staff is very young, friendly but lack experience in the restaurant Second evening at the Gourmet Restaurant. Absolutely worthwhile! The food was delicious and the staff still young, but much more knowledgeable and a "Maitre de service" overseeing everything.

Very confortable hotel and excellent cooking made by Nolwenn Le Corre and her team. The site of "Pointe Saint Mathieu" is beautiful and the sea very nea of the hotel. Nice team and good SPA. I enjoy to come back.
