We were a group of friends travelling together, and it was a real pleasure to stay at SISU. Everything was as shown on the webpage, the rooms are newly refurbished and beautiful, and the location is conveniently close to the downtown/historic area of Plymouth. There is a pleasant outdoor area at the motel, secluded from the street, where we could sit and have a meal together, and the owners got the fire pit going and left us plenty of wood. The owners were very helpful and pleasant. We highly recommend staying at SISU.

The concept of this place is charming and we appreciated all the design choices that convey the owners' respect for the building and its site. Close to the center of town, it's ideal for both walking and driving. This is undermined by some odd flaws and omissions — and by some things that might be uncontrollable, such as the thin walls that forced us to listen to arguments from the occupants of the room next to ours. Here's what I'd do to quickly bring the place closer to its ideal: 1) Provide bathrobes. 2) Put a nightlight in the bathroom so you don't blind yourself if you need to go in the middle of the night. 3) Install dimmers on the bedside lamps, so the lighting choices are not just on/off. 4) Add more hooks and pegs on the walls, which substitute for closets and dressers here. Other issues may be harder to address: 1) The sink fixture is a cute old-fashioned brass thing, but the spout curves down so close to the sinkbowl (which is beautiful, btw) that I had a hard time using it without banging my hands into either the spout or the sink, or both. This seems like an instance of "Wow that looks good, let's buy it!" overcoming "Will this actually do the job in its context of use?" As someone who worked in design research for years, I've seen this a hundred times. 2) The toilet seat is needlessly high. Ergonomic studies show that the best toilet is low, putting the user closer to a squatting position. They could've found one that matches their design concept *and* satisfies physiological requirements. 3) Don't get me started on the inadvisability of an AC/heat system that runs multiple room units, each with its own remote control, off of a single compressor in a split configuration. Net: if you're not as picky as we are, you'll probably love the place! We liked it and applaud the owners for striving to be as intentional as possible.

We had a hugely enjoyable stay in Plymouth, not least because of this charming and perfectly located hotel. It feels like a quiet, out of the way place, but all of the major sights are right there - in easy walking distance (and for the one major attraction that isn't, our incredibly kind and obliging host Meggie offered to drop us out in her very cool Jeep). We also received excellent tips for coffee, meals, etc. and were able to leave some luggage after check-out while we explored some more. This is an owner-operated place with a genuinely personal touch. The rooms are very tastefully done, and the beds are extremely comfortable. We felt very well looked after and would happily stay there again.

Sisu - to say it's a "motel" does not do the place justice! A lovely, stylish accommodation on an idyllic, peaceful street. It was a pleasant walk (not too close, not too far) from the restaurants, shops, a very nice laundromat and historical attractions. We booked the Chart Room in the main house, which is up a straight flight of stairs (therefore not suitable for physically challenged visitors). The host Meggie is wonderful.

Immaculate, comfortable, quiet retreat that is within walking distance to everything, yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Plymouth. While visiting family in the area, this has become our "Go to" lodging of choice. SISU is an efficiently run and lovely little motel. Melissa Sisa

We had the best stay at Sisu! I cannot recommend this place enough. The room was cozy, well decorated, and had all the amenities that we could need. Even the shampoo and conditioner was of superior quality. We cannot wait to return to Sisu again soon!

Sisu was the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. Parking was stress-free as they have their own lot. Check in was easy. I highly recommend the buyout option if there is a group looking for more privacy. The room was spacious with extra seating in the Captain’s Quarters. The outdoor fire pit was nice for gathering as well. Sisu was recently renovated so the bathroom had modern touches and the room was equipped with a Nespresso machine. Sisu was walking distance from downtown which has some great breakfast spots, hot yoga and restaurants. Meggie and James know the area well so can provide recommendations in person. The beach is a short walk away as well which is great for the summer. I highly recommend Sisu if you are looking for an stress-free vacation week or short getaway.
