Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Portage la Prairie

Check in and out was very easy, the room was spacious. I originally booked the room for one guest but had an extra two guests which the hotel tried to accommodate by supplying an extra duvet and pillows because they don't offer extra cots. I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the room I was given - the window sill had weird smudges which came off easily after wiping them myself, the clock was not working and the carpet had dust buildup on the edges of the room. The pool had no towels, but had no trouble getting them at the front desk. Last thing was the elevator floor was a hazard - I nearly tripped on broken tile. The one positive thing I have is the woman at the front desk was very polite, ready to help and I witnessed her doing many jobs by herself.

poor customer service. check in is at 3 but our room wasn’t ready until 5:45pm and we were just told “i don’t know when your room will be done” .. waiting in the lobby with 3 kids wasn’t ideal. staff didn’t seem to care either

Pros: - New hotel so everything looked modern and was in good shape. - Room + Hotel overall was very clean. Cons: - Heating unit was all over the place - gusting hot air and then gusting cold. Adjusting thermostat didn't seem to do much. - Shower head was rain-head style and had ZERO pressure and no adjustments.

Room was not ready upon arrival at check in time. Had to wait an hour and a half for room. Hotel seems cheaply constructed. Can hear people on the floor above and below and in the rooms next to you. Floor creeks everywhere. Staff/security not friendly when using common area. Lack of options at breakfast and not enough supply of what they had.

My wife and 2 young kids came for a night away from home for a fun night. Everything was great. Breakfast was amazing and pool was fun

Everything was great. Check-in was a bit slow, rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast could be improved upon. I was having a hard time choosing between 2 Wyndham properties and chose the more expensive Microtel thinking the breakfast would be better. It was not. And in hindsight I wish I would’ve saved the $30 difference and stayed at the cheaper hotel.

This hotel always hikes their prices substantially during hockey tournaments, namely the Portage Cup in February each year. Then, after paying the exorbitant prices, the staff are unwilling to offer even slightly early check-ins or late check-outs. Rooms are always clean enough, but I still find areas around the beds/furniture with food crumbs, so definitely room for improvement. Parking lot also doesn't get plowed regularly or seemingly at all because it's always in a disastrous state when we stay (which we have 3-4 times now). From now on, the Super 8 will get our business, at least they won't gouge us for being hockey parents.

Average hotel. Breakfast was good. Our room was clean except for the bathroom which looked like it was not swept.

Asked the front desk if housekeeping would clean my room without prompting and was told yes by the housekeeping manager but my room didn’t end up getting cleaned. Just went with fresh towels.
