A hotel that truly makes you feel like the most important guest in the world From the moment you arrive, Splendido Mare in Portofino makes you feel like the most important guest in the world. The setting is simply beautiful, and the hotel itself is spectacular. Food and service are impeccable at every turn, and even the smallest details — the tableware, the cutlery — are refined and thoughtfully chosen. A benchmark for what genuine luxury hospitality should feel like.

This hotel should be given greater than 5 stars if possible. From design & aesthetics to quality & service, it was hands down one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed at. So beautiful. The location is perfectly situated in the heart of the Positano port with views out into the marina. We stayed in the Ava Gardner suite, which is worth it if you can manage the splurge. The patio is magnificent. This suite includes (I believe) a bit higher level of hospitality. They brought breakfast to us on our patio every morning, prepared a private dinner for us one night, and it includes laundry service and a boat ride on a gozzo during your visit. The service you get from everyone at the hotel was above and beyond. I can see why they’ve earned Michelin keys. With only fourteen rooms, there is a personal touch from everyone. The managers, the concierge, the bartender, all felt like personal friends in the end. They did everything they could to ensure we had the best visit ever. We had dinner at their restaurant and at the sister restaurant up the hill. Both meals were fantastic. And finally, this hotel ( not the sister hotel from what I understand) includes access to a beach club. It was a wonderful experience. Super high end with waiters and extremely comfortable chaise lounges right on platforms on the edge of the water. We went two days in a row. We loved it! Thanks for a great stay! I would come again and again. Portofino turned out to be a total jewel we didn’t expect to love so much as we did! We’ll be back.

Arriving at Splendido Mare feels like stepping into an Italian film. Overlooking Portofino’s picturesque harbour, the hotel has that effortless Riviera elegance that instantly slows the pace of the day. With only fourteen rooms it feels intimate, personal and very special. What truly makes it unforgettable is the team. Led by their wonderful manager Michela, they practise hospitality as an art , warm, attentive and effortlessly caring. At Dav Mare, Filipp, Juan, Susy, Fabio and Federico turn dinner into a joyful Italian evening. Luca at The Bar mixes fantastic cocktails while the harbour settles into night, and Salvatore from housekeeping keeps everything beautifully in place. We’re already looking forward to coming back.

Lovely hotel located in the Piazzetta of Portofino. Lovely and beautiful location with choice of several restaurants, and luxury shops. The service at Mare is 5 stars. They attended to all our needs and our final moments before leaving the hotel were extraordinary. It’s a fun lively place with one of our favorite restaurants Da V Mare just steps from our guest room They offer an incredible beach club Bagna Fiore which can not be missed. You can Spend the day swimming in a beautiful lagoon, tranquil and fun with great cocktails and snacks. Mare organizes a row of beach chairs just for their guests. It’s a very civilized experience. We will not forget the attention that we received from the team at Mare. It’s a boutique hotel environment and they attended to our needs and requests. Michela the hotel manager is the queen of the Piazzetta and treats her quests with careful attention and kindness. We will see you soon!

Sometimes things take an unexpected turn and it ends up being something better than you could have imagined. This was exactly the experience that led us to Splendido Mare. My husband and I were ending a 3 week trip in Italy in another location of the country at a hotel that I had very expectations of. Unfortunately this experience was sadly nowhere near what we hoped and decided to leave and find another location to spend the final days of our travels. We did some quick research in terms of flight and hotel availability and we landed on Splendido Mare. We packed up our things, took a flight to Genoa and it was the best decision we could have made! Immediately upon entering Splendido Mare we were made to feel at home by the beautiful ( both inside and out!) Michela. Her and her team gave us the warmest welcome in this most idyllic location. I felt like I was in a dream. The decor is perfectly done, blending in seamlessly with the picturesque village of Portofino. Our stay ended up being a fabulous one. We loved eating at DaV Mare, the beach club was amazing and sharing the amenities with the Splendido on the hill provided us with an intimate boutique style hotel experience with all the amenities of a larger hotel. I am so thankful to Michela and team for being so accommodating to us. Given our last minute reservation, they didn’t have rooms available for our full stay so we had to move rooms during our time and also stay for one night at another hotel in the middle of our stay. Even with all that, they made it feel seamless and completely stress-free, we truly could not have had a better experience. I have even kept the incredibly sweet goodbye note that Michela wrote us in my memory box because the whole experience was just that special to us. I now can’t imagine how it is going to feel when we come back again this summer and actually have one room the entire time! Thank you to the whole team for your kindness and warmth, we can’t wait to see you all again in August!

The attentive and thoughtful service made my stay at Splendido Mare truly memorable. I was warmly welcomed with an early check-in, and Filippo, the Front Desk Manager, went above and beyond to arrange lunch at Splendido Grill and secure the best front-row loungers for me at Bagni Fiore Beach Club. His professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality made every arrangement effortless. I also appreciated the many complimentary benefits throughout my stay, including the shuttle service connecting all of the Belmond properties in Portofino, complimentary gelato, reserved loungers at Bagni Fiore Beach Club, and access to the pool and breakfast at the sister hotel, Splendido. These thoughtful touches elevated the experience and reflected the exceptional level of hospitality that Belmond is known for. The hotel’s location is another highlight. Situated right in the heart of Portofino, everything is within easy walking distance—from the harbour and restaurants to the village’s charming streets. I even hiked up to Castello Brown and continued on to the Portofino Lighthouse. It was quite a walk, but the breathtaking views along the way made it well worth the effort. Overall, Splendido Mare offers the perfect combination of outstanding service, thoughtful amenities, and an unbeatable location. I would gladly stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Portofino.
