Holiday Inn Express & Suites College Park-University Area

This hotel, although, conveniently located, is on a very, very, very busy street. Very close to the University, and a lot of fun places to eat and hang out, but it comes at the cost of being in an ever so slightly “shady” area. Once inside the hotel, you forget about all of it, and the staff do an excellent job of making you feel welcome and this older property. I will agree with some of the other reviewers that it is conveniently located to the green line, but we were unprepared for all of the fees associated with parking and riding in to DC. We wish we would have reserved parking lot in town and just driven.

In Motel mode, the room has a large bed and good bedding, but the air conditioner is too loud, and it will start and stop automatically. Breakfast is a typical American family fast food, milk fruit drink muffin omelette basically these, it is self-service. When I checked in, the front desk was an older lady, very friendly and polite. I got off the plane from Washington and drove all the way to get a foothold and felt very warm. There is a small courtyard where you can park for free. Not far from HIGHWAY, it is more convenient to drive in and out.

The hotel was clean overall. Although we found a small stain on one of thethe comforters and a stand of hair on the bed. Although we felt a bit disgusted, we knew that this wasn’t a 5-star hotel and some minor inconveniences would be there. The bathrooms were very clean. We’ve stayed there twice. The first time we were given room #126 which was right next to the reception. You’ll hear tut doors open and slam shut the entire night. We didn’t get a good nights sleep. So beware of that room. The second time I specifically requested a room upstairs and it was a good decision. It was silent and peaceful and we all got a good nights sleep. So overall I would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a decent place for a quick night cap. Keep your expectations a bit lower than a 5-star hotel. During our first stay, the staff who checked us in was ok. Wasn’t rude or anything. But wasn’t too customer friendly either. On our second stay, the lady at the front desk was super friendly and courteous. I really appreciated the fridge and microwave in our suite. Was very useful to reheat the left overs from the restaurants.

We stayed here for a hockey tournament and the hotel worked out very well for us. It was only about 10 minutes to the rink. There were lots of restaurants and stores nearby. The hotel also provided us a conference room for the hockey families to congregate as opposed to taking over their lobby. The hotel itself was pretty decent. The common areas were nice. The gym was tiny but had everything needed. The pool and hot tub looked nice, too. Our room was clean which is my number one priority at any hotel. You could tell there had been some updates to the room, which did not extend to the bathroom…or some of the furnishings…but, again, as long as it is clean, beds are comfortable, and it is quiet enough to sleep, then it is acceptable. The employees were friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was pretty good, as well. I particularly liked that they offered a veggie eggwhite omelette in addition to scrambled eggs, pancakes, and biscuits and gravy bc I watch what I eat:) I would not vacation here or anything, but I’d certainly stay here again next time we are in town for hockey or if it was a business trip or something:)

This hotel is kinda ewww. It’s in a weird location and there are tons of tour buses parked all around it. I didn’t see any places to eat nearby. Avoid the elevators. Only one was working and we were afraid to use it bc the doors got stuck and wouldn’t open when we first arrived. We took the stairs from then on. The hallways look grimey. The carpets are all stained. It’s overall very unappealing aesthetically. The room is small, dark, and cramped as is the bathroom. I’d rate a C+/B- on cleanliness. It’s hard to tell if it’s dirty or actually just old but clean. There are very few outlets and no charging ports. The beds feel very old and cheap but were not as uncomfortable as I was expecting….they were ok. A couple good points: the rooms had a fridge and a microwave. It seemed to be insulated pretty well as I did not hear any highway or hallway noise….that’s kind of rare in even the best hotels. The breakfast was quite good and the attendant runs a very tight ship. You WILL put the gloves on before touching her buffet and she will be on your tail wiping down everything your gloved hands touch or spill and putting the serving utensils back exactly how she wants them. But she will also come clear your plate and smile at you and tell you to have a nice day. I appreciate the work ethic and her dedication to cleanliness. People can be gross, so I’m ok with the gloves. I’d say she and the breakfast were the highlights of the hotel…..but I won’t be staying there again because honestly it’s just below my standards.
