This location is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Puerto Natales Bus Terminal which includes some slopes, and is a less than 10-minute walk to the main streets of Puerto Natales, so overall I consider this a good compromise of a location. There are several supermarkets nearby and it is conveniently close to many of the good local restaurants and cafes. Most tour operators can pick up straight from this hostal. The hostal requires an online check-in pre-arrival, and was responsive when I arrived (though the reception is not always manned). Check-out procedure was also quick and hassle-free. The room and bathroom are kept very tidy. Breakfast was mainly self-service style and basic, but it got the job done. The kitchen was open to use and provided a lot of convenience during the stay, including use of the fridge, water kettle, and various utensils.

Awesome room!! It was exactly what I needed to rest in between the Torres del Paine days. The host is very responsive, there's a well prepared kitchen and nice breakfast included, coffee machine etc. Quite comfy bed, all clean... I stayed upon arrival in Puerto Natales and then again before heading back to Santiago. Super recommend.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. It was a terrible experience. We arrived by noon after an early morning flight, and the hotel was locked. We thought we'd been scammed and it was a closed-down hotel. After waiting for over ten minutes, the owner came by car and opened the door for us. Only three rooms had windows. Only one room with a window was on the second floor; the rest were all windowless. Our stay was relatively good. Another family waited outside for over an hour before someone came. The Wi-Fi wouldn't connect for several days. The owner said it was a problem with my phone. My phone was bought locally, so I don't know what the problem was. The milk for breakfast was bitter, probably expired. We fried the eggs ourselves. Besides that, we could eat ham and cheese slices, but that was it. There was no reception, no cleaning staff; it was just a place to run a small business. I wouldn't recommend it.

It was so comfortable and quiet, making it a great place to rest. I was so happy to be able to look out at the snow-capped mountains of the national park from the living room under the sunlight. I had such a good rest and am taking away only good memories. I couldn't meet the owner, so I couldn't mention this to them. The hair dryer wasn't working, so I couldn't use it, and since there was no staff on the deck, I couldn't even swap with them. I found out a few days late that the heaters in each room were working, so I suffered from the cold for two days. I had a comfortable and warm rest here. Thank you. I will miss you.

The hostel is excellent! Very cozy, and the welcome from Luis and Gerardo was one of the best I've ever had. We felt right at home! The entire space was super clean, with body soap, shampoo, and conditioner available. New, high-quality towels. The kitchen had all the necessary cooking equipment, if needed, and the breakfast was excellent. Despite all the things that made for a great experience, the people who were part of it stood out. Great conversation, as simple as a conversation between friends, lots of help with local information, and lots of interesting life stories. Luis, Gerardo, I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors. Hugs, Rodrigo and Vale.

I could check-in a little earlier, which was great after a night flight. The wifi is strong and stable, kitchen area is spacious. My bed was very comfortable. I slept great. Like many places in Chile, things seem to be built quickly and with cheap materials. Things that didn’t affect my comfort but for example, the soap distributor in the shower doesn’t work well. As far as safety and location, it’s very good, staff is nice and welcoming.

Could not have had any better service. The breakfast was ready by 6:00 and everything was sensible and plenty.

The breakfast is provided, and you can use the kitchen before 10pm. The room is warm and cozy. The space is limited but totally works.

Hostel El Refugio had all the comforts of home including a warm hearty breakfast every morning, comfortable beds with fresh linens in a private room, and private bathrooms. My visit was during fall when temps were colder. The hostel was always warm after a day outdoors. The owner Luis was very kind and accommodating, making sure you have everything for a perfect visit.
