David in China

Qingdao University International Hotel is physically located on the Qingdao University campus, so getting there is a bit of a challenge. The security guards, once I showed them proof of my reservation, pointed out where the hotel is. And the thing is, the hotel is also part of one of the classroom buildings, so before you see the hotel, you will think that the building it is in is only a classroom building. There are some signs that point you to the hotel front entrance, but you've got to walk up about 50 meters before you see the actual entrance.
Now, regarding the staff. I traveled during China's National Holiday, and on that holiday, most people go home. But there were people there, both front desk staff and housekeeping. What was missing was the culinary aspect, and part of my reservation included a free breakfast, which I did not receive for five days. I was able to get my things to the room, and the room itself wasn't too bad for an older hotel. Slight whiff of mildew. BUT THE WIFI? Completely useless. I could not get a decent signal at all.
But the good thing was that the staff helped me out with getting water and ordering food. Turns out that there is a KFC located on the campus, and they deliver. At least they did deliver to the hotel (subsequent orders, when I moved to another location, were dropped out at some kiosk). So yeah, if you have business on campus, the hotel is fine.
