We were really looking forward to staying here based on the good reviews, and we had bought our train tickets to travel from Bologna to Ravenna. Unfortunately we were unable to get there on the day of our check-in, due to all trains and buses being cancelled. We waited on a station for over three hours for a bus connection that was also cancelled due to the extreme flooding between Bologna and Ravenna. We were informed that the government had declared a state of emergency, that people had died and were being evacuated from the area on this day. All attempts to contact the accommodation on the day of check-in were not responded to. This included a phone call, several texts and an email. We had no way of knowing whether the accommodation itself was safe from the flooding. When the accommodation finally spoke to us the next morning they told us that they would be charging us the full amount (two nights accommodation). They said we should have caught a taxi, which is an unreasonable expectation, when trains and buses couldn’t get there due to extreme flooding. We tried to send another email, to once again explain our situation, but they once again never responded. They should never have kept our money under these circumstances. They provided no service or assistance even prior to check-in. It is a shame that some businesses feel the need to operate in this manner.
