In all general terms the hotel is good. We had to check-out before a time due to what now happens in Israel. At this point the young man at reception asked whether I'm coming back to 'Palestine'. I'm still wondering what it was: a Freudian slip revealing a desire that Israel will no exist? Or simple stupidity?

Family suites in this hotel are spacious and quite functional. The balcony is a bit small and the view (we had so called partly ocean view) is not much to long for, just a deserted, narrow asfalt street and a glimpse of ocean far away. Excellent drying rack thought, much appreciated for! Many things were broken in our bathroom: toilet seat (got it fixed quickly though), carbage can (did not open with the pedal, had to touch it, YACK), shower rack was detached from the wall etc. Got a bit bored to grouch about every single thing. Couldnt they just check that everything is in order in all the bathrooms when they clean them anyway? The lady in the lobby was not especially receptive to complaints either. As a customer I rather felt like it was just me being too picky and waisting her precious time. Afandou Beach is right next to this hotel, very easy to go to the beach and still visit the hotel showers and pool in between. Problem is that there is nothing on the beach, no activity what so ever. Just few (maybe 20) sun beds, hardly any service with them either. Do not know whether it was the time or what but this place was totally dead from the turism point of view. We had a rented car, so it did not bother us a bit, but without a car this would have been a bit dull place. There were maybe one or two restaurants but could not really figure out whether they were closed or not. Hotel has two pools, relatively small but ok. The hotel minimarket is very, very small and only takes cash money, no cards. The hotel had a very good buffet, tasteful food, so we were satisfied with that. And the service in the restaurant was good, the older male waiter especially was genuinely friendly towards customers. Hotel clientele was mostly German, over 60 years plus quite a few Russians. If you are fine with that, this is your hotel.

Really enjoyed our stay at Afandou Bay Resort. It was quiet enough without being a ghost town and busy enough with being rowdy or party central. It's located in a really good spot with its own beach a short 2 minute walk from the pool. (Be aware that the sunbeds are not the hotels , on the beach, which you have to pay to rent, but the beach has soft enough sand to put your towel down and sit/lie). The reception is nice and big and the staff were good. (If you want a room safe it's 28 euro per week) Check in was easy enough and the walk to the room not long. The restaurant was good with a decent amount of vegetarian options and a good range of other foods. The lady making the omelette at breakfast and pasta etc at night was a particularly lovely friendly lady who takes pride in her work. The rooms are a good standard and beds very comfortable. The pool is a good size, clean and the surrounding area with sunbeds are all tidy. (A point to note with the pool is that locals are allowed in to drink and bring their kids to swin , quite common in Greek Islands, but they can get a bit loud with their squealing and playing... but it didn't bother us too much but worth mentioning). Pool bar was a great place to sit, drink and eat (prices are reasonable - 7 euro for a cocktail and around the same for pizza etc if you want to eat). Overall a great hotel , great location, good staff and food.

Meals average, staff on the whole attentive some good some ignored us completely. Entertainment once a week by rather tuneless trumpet and sax player. Aircon in reception off and sweltering - drinks around double the market prices. A 25 min walk to any civilisation 2 x expensive bars locally so ideal if you want to burn by the pool are tea total and like eating the same food every day. Glass partition cracked on balcony large window in restaurant also cracked and damaged broken door in restaurant staff lifted it off the hinges at meal times. Bring a book hire a car and make sure you remember the Greek 4 euro / day room tax

Having read previous reviews I can only comment on our experience. I would have given 5 stars except for two things, 1. The lack of entertainment (there was a sax and trumpet player one night and background music every other). We personally felt it would have been nice for some Greek music and entertainment). 2. The food although really nice and varied, wasn't always hot, but this is difficult with so many to feed during a long breakfast/dinner timetable - tip, wait until the waitresses refill the food trays! Besides this, we had no complaints about this hotel and had a wonderful time. Reading previous reviews, I would comment that we were never ignored by the staff/waitresses, on the contrary they were most attentive, as soon as you finished your meal the waitresses were there clearing the plates. I want to particularly mention Mira, who served us most of the time, she was very friendly, helpful and attentive. Not sure about the drinks prices being double the usual price, as we found the prices the same wherever we went on the island, around 3.50 to 4 euros, which isn't much different to the UK, taking into account the exchange rate. As for the long walk to civilisation, we knew this before we booked as we did our research. We wanted a quiet resort where we could walk and that's what it is! If research is done, people know what they are going to get. As far as the food being the same, I strongly disagree. There was such a varied buffet selection. We were there for 10 days and you could eat differently most days. Although the breakfast selection was mostly the same, it was a really wide selection anyway. The 4 euros a night room tax is also mentioned before you book (isn't this the same all over Greece)? We never had to wait for our cases to be taken to the room. As soon as we booked in, the receptionist called the porter, who took us and the cases to our room on his buggy, and even took them up to our first floor room. You are told on the hotel website before you book that kettles are available on request, so I wasn't surprised there wasn't one in the room (we took a travel kettle) We found all staff to be friendly, including the German and the Greek lady on reception, and the lady cooking the omelettes etc at breakfast. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a balcony. Nice bathroom and comfy bed too. The hotel was nicely decorated. The pool was good, and not overly busy. The pool bar was staffed by very friendly ladies, and the club sandwiches they serve are a must! It was a very short walk to the beach of sand and shingle. Sun loungers/parasols were 10 to 12 Euros for the day, which is slightly expensive. We fell in love with the bar by the beach, Sundalia By The Beach, it was lovely. All in all, a great holiday, but remember, as here, everything has gone up in price, but considering there has been a pandemic, they have to recoup their losses as best they can.

We spent a week here at the beginning of May. 2022. Staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough to help. So attentive and polite. It is slightly out the way, so quiet. Pools lovely but cool.love the cats! Adorable! The food in the evening is varied amd tasty although the breakfasts were the same nearly every day. It was super quiet the 1st few days and the wind was out bur after that the sun was out every day and was the perfect summer vacation. Although there's a kids pool and a small play set there didn't seem to be much for kids, and there.werent many kids there till the laat day, which was ideal for us really. The rooms were gorgeous with faux 4 poster beds a good size bathroom and living room with dining table and leather sofa, 2 balconies and we were situated on the ground floor. I cant reccomend the place more, and the staff need a raise!

Thought long and hard before writing this review , do I really want to be one of those who complain about everything but then again do I really want to let Tui get away with misspelling a holiday ?! NO This was doomed from the start , given the wrong room then told we couldn’t have what we booked because of covid, offered another hotel but that was like a 1970s butlins !! So we decided to stay where we were and after complaining to Tui miraculously got a suite we had booked however this was just the beginning the resort centre was a good half hour walk away only 2 bars in walking distance, food in the hotel was boring bland and repetitive, crockery as chipped and mismatched waiting staff couldn’t even manage to remember a drink order of 1 tea 1 coffee 2 waters at breakfast !! We ate out after just 3 nights of the school dinners ! The hotel pools were dirty and in a poor state of repair, lose decking boards and green algae in the pool, staff largely ignored us and paid more attention to German guests, shop on site was mostly gifts and overpriced drinks so had to go into the resort t buy basics Ron was cleaned daily and was a real plus point but air con was rubbish and the fridge was so noisy we had to turn it off at night to get some sleep, sink was so slow to drain it left soap s um around the bowl all the time and the bathroom door scraped across the floor as it was so heavy ( not good when you need to use the loo during the night) Rhodes is beautiful but this hotel was the worst we have ever stayed in and apart from the lovely beach there is nothing to do here We did complain to Tui but as they had given us a good will gesture ( £100 holiday voucher) on day 2 of our holiday for being moved 3 times they refused to consider the rest of our complaints . Have taken our holidays with Tui for over 25 years but won’t be doing so again.
