Overall a good week, however this is not a 5 star hotel as advertised. On arrival we were greeted by an unhelpful receptionist who gave us no information on where anything was, opening times, towel deposits etc. Even the simplest of questions from us were just met with silence, we were shown to our room, which was back out to the front of the hotel, and to the side of the car park. We had booked a balcony room but had been given an open terrace overlooking the car park and in full view of the road so no privacy at all. The room itself was incredibly basic, what you’d expect from a budget hotel, the blankets provided were so low quality we almost didn’t want to touch it, rough material, almost like a duvet without a cover on. We had only the windows either side of the front door, little to no decoration which made it feel very dark even in the middle of the day. The bathroom was small and grubby, no door on the shower meant that the whole bathroom was soaked every time the shower was used. We enquired at reception the following morning about a change of room as we were very disappointed, however the only other room we were offered was downstairs with no windows, or we could pay more for an upgrade. Again this receptionist was quite rude and didn’t even smile or apologise, just made us feel like an inconvenience. We decided to just move on and enjoy the holiday, which we did. The pool area was nice, but crowded. A lot of cheap sun beds lined up so close together you can’t walk between them. Some activities on offer such as aqua aerobics, water polo and volleyball, not really for kids though as this did get quite full on. Lunch options were the buffet, a Gyros bar or pizza. The lunch and evening buffet was extremely limited in terms of choice, only one or two dishes were changed each day so you really do end up eating the same thing every day. On one night one of the dishes was pork which on one piece was completely uncooked in the centre. A lot of sticky mash potato, hard, stale pasta and unlabelled fish. We were also quite surprised by a sign outside the restaurant that stated if your food isn’t warm enough, then to use the microwave provided. Again, not what you would ever expect to see in a “5 star” hotel. The pool bar staff were excellent, really friendly and quick with the drinks, happy to make changes to the drinks if you ask and even took requests for music. The nearby area has plenty of shops, bars and food places and about a 10 minute walk to the beach. To be completely honest, If we had booked this hotel as a 3 star, we would have been more than satisfied, however the fact it is being advertised as a 5 star is quite frankly outrageous. Having stayed at a true 5 star hotel in Greece last year, the differences are shocking.
