I’m used to staying in large hotel chains and have lived in over 20 countries, so when my business booked me into the Countryman’s Inn in Hunton, at first I wasn’t sure what to expect as it’s certainly not my usual type of establishment. On first impressions it’s a pub within the beautiful Yorkshire village of Hunton but stay for a night or 2 and you’ll find out the beauty of the Countryman’s Inn as there is a lot more to it than first impressions. Lisa & Dan run the place - Lisa is a gem, very helpful, smart and just all round lovely. Dan, well more about him soon. My room, 3 was excellent value, the bed was perfect and very comfortable and I enjoyed my 3 night stay with the internet TV. Now to Dan …. He’s the chef for Breakfast and Dinner and quite frankly is outstanding - someone award this man a Michelin Star, and soon. I had one of the finest cooked steaks ever and I used to eat steak weekly when I lived in Alberta for 4 years, in a Canadian Province where steak is cheaper than chicken! I enjoy medium and every part of the cut was grilled on point with seasoning to die for. Chef Dan is a culinary genius. I probably shouldn’t have but I went in for desert and opted for Apple & blackberry crumble - OMG 🤪it was light and airy, not a hint of stoge and rounded off with a perfect consistency custard. I have just found my new favourite chef, it’s just a shame this gem of a restaurant is 5 hours from home. I will find another business excuse and return soon. You MUST visit too.

A lovely rural pub owned by the community. The rooms are large and airy with everything you need. Nothing was too much trouble. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and breakfast was great value for money. An old coaching inn, if you want to stay somewhere off the beaten track in a building with character and history, this is the place to go. Lisa and Charlotte really looked after me.

After a long and tiring journey, under difficult circumstances, we were made to feel instantly welcome by landlord Dan. We stayed in the family room, excellent value for money, spacious with large en suite, comfy bed. And all amenities. The bar has a lovely atmosphere, real country pub vibe, and the icing on the cake, it’s extremely doggy friendly, The breakfast was outstanding, good quality local produce, cooked to perfection, as were the evening meals, of which we as a family sampled quite a few of the dishes on offer, all excellent & a special mention to the Saag Masala Curry; superb 👌 Service was prompt, good sized portions and reasonably priced. Thoroughly recommended I will most definitely stay again. Thank u all for making us feel so welcome

Just wanted to share our experience. As a family of 5 it can be very stressful taking young children away. However the staff here went out of their way to make us welcome. The room was large and comfortable with a great en-suite bathroom. We went along to the village park to run the kids then back for some fantastic food. The atmosphere in the pub is warm and cozy but the noise won't disturb you in your room. The quality of the hearty breakfast is worthy of note too. Many thanks for a great stay!

We had a two night stay in room one with two Labradors. Good size room with a nice roomy en suite. There was a quiz night when we arrived which could be heard in the room but like other reviews said the noise stopped at a reasonable time and the location is really quiet. Breakfast was excellent and a hint that we were never going to be hungry. The dogs were most welcome and there were treats on the bar. There’s a small field at the back where dogs can go. Speaking of the back there’s a quite narrow arch to get to the back parking area which takes some confidence in a large car but there is parking at the front and on the street. Dinners were really nice, good ingredients cooked well and large portions. It’s a community pub and all the better for it. Lisa and Dan are great hosts and all the staff we meet were friendly, cheerful and helpful. Just go, you won’t regret it.

Well run community owned pub . Camra award winning therefore a great and varied selection of well kept local ales . Add to this great food , friendly service , local Yorkshire hospitality, clean and well kept rooms & you have all the ingredients of a great pub / Inn . Great beer garden when the suns shining or sit by the fire in winter . Dog and child friendly. A great base for the dales / York / Harrogate / Newcastle . Wonderful village with lots of unspoilt walks , village stream and Ford , great kids playpark . Don’t tell everyone

From the moment my call was answered by Lisa, I knew we were in great hands. Lisa and Dan have created a great inn, a lovely atmosphere supported by locals and visitors alike. It's one of those idillic country inns off the beaten track, out of the way, and very suitable for couples and a little romance. The food is lovely, good old pub grub at a very reasonable price for your evening dining. Rooms are surprisingly spacious and all with en suite. As a free house, they have some great cask beer, and none of the usual "off the shelf" Heineken family rubbish. A well stocked spirit shelf and a dart board in the corner. In winter a roaring fire, a beer garden in summer, and outdoor seating. Lisa and Dan, along with the family team, have created a lovely community based pub in a lovely village. We slept well in the comfy and well stocked bedroom, towels, tea & Coffee making, Harrogate spa water, shampoo shower gel, and TV with WiFi. Then you get to breakfast 😋 £7.95 Full English thick crusty breat toasted or a simple cereal and toast with preserves. This place had it all, relax in the bar, have a walk, enjoy the ambience and hopitality of a great inn run by people who work hard to please throughout your stay. P.S. We were heading home in Sunday but decided to enjoying Dan's slow roast beef brisket dinner with Yorkshire puddings.....umm Enjoy

My wife and I enjoyed our meal there last night. Service was excellent, as were our meals. I had the Breaded Mushrooms to start, followed by Giant Yorkshire, filled with a Sausage Ring, with Mash and Veg. My wife had the Pate, and the Festive Pie. The portions were generous, and I would certainly also commend the Countrymans for its cheerful atmosphere.

Nice pub. Lovely village in the Yorkshire dales, barely any cars, really quiet. Pub has a nice community feel and a good atmosphere. Staff were friendly and our family room was really large, as was the en suite. Beer was good, as was the food. Negatives: chips not homemade, mattress not pocket sprung, room reasonably pricey, in my opinion.
