Hotels near Sonata Town Center, San Andres Cholula

Since checking in …a complete nightmare, I did my reservation and prepaid online with Trip and I was told by the hotel staff that they had no record of the payment and they wouldn’t allow me in, until i called trip and after 1 hour they allowed me in. I also wanted to order room service, there were no menus and their “online service” was not working… the rooms are a bit old and their ac wasn’t working either surprise surprise… There’s plenty of options in Puebla … don’t bother staying here it’s very overrated….

The hotel is very good, at a good price, the detail sometimes is the communication of the details that occur, I asked for a room with 2 beds and they did not give me one, they gave a sofa bed that was not comfortable... In general the hotel is good

Firstly, we were surprised to see, by hotel signage, that it was a Marriott property or we would have communicated with Marriott directly as we are members. Upon arrival I was pressured by front desk staff to submit a deposit ”just in case we made charges”, we knew we would not have any charges yet after the pressure I complied (I did speak to the Manager who cancelled the charge on our last day). We had a double queen bed room, the beds were comfortable, the A/C was the noisiest I've ever heard, louder than the TV unless the volume was raised a lot, it was also difficult to set the desired temperature and if you turned it off (it was always cold! no matter how much we fiddled with it) the room was super stuffy since there are no windows that open. The bathroom was ok yet had no ventilation and the extractor was not working plus the towels were some of the roughest I've ever experienced. Some of the lights in the room were not operating. All the above we did not complain above, they are just what was in the room during our stay. The one thing we did complain about was the TV system in place, we travel a lot and bring our media equipment for nights spent in, like Fire TB, etc. We also have several online media services which we maintain and use all over the world, like VPN, HBO, Amazon Prime, Netlix, YouTube, etc. While the TV in room can allow you to view Netlix and YouTube, you will not be able to access any other service nor use any of your own media devices. I know several families that bring along video consoles for their children to keep them entertained for example, but the system in this hotel is blocked to any devices from your cell phone or any external device and while we don't have children, having to watch Mexican on air programs (and we are 100% fluent) is not my idea of entertainment. HBO shown on their system does not correspond to any of the descriptions shown on the guide. When I brought this issue up to Management they just said ”Oh, yes we do block all content”. It's a small detail but when most people own more than a few devices, it's very close minded of them. At least they don't charge additionally for Internet which Marriott is known to do.... The restaurant on the main floor was another disappointment as the food was completely without flavor and /or salt, for a Puebla offering is not good at all. We paid for the breakfast buffet at $250 per person. They had someone on the grill making eggs (worst Huevos Rancheros ever!), quesadillas, chalupas, etc. The ”guisados” a beef and potatoes one and a chicken one are best skipped. The beans just ok, the coffee was dark water and while they have an espresso machine it was not in operation. So had juice and some mini pastries which were good. We were never tempted to order room service as offerings in town are much better and many are cheaper as well. Our group's stay was absolute wonderful! The management staff as well as the the food and beverage staff, was truly amazing. This is coming from an industry veteran who also managed 5 hotels for Marriott. The Hotel San Pedro is incredibly located, with historic, clean and excellent accommodations, as well as a food quality and variety, that surpasses the international chains in the outskirts of the city. The price to value ratio beats any overpriced competition! Special thanks to Angelica, the General Manager and the Chef too, whose name escapes me! Our group was ket happy thanks to them and their team of professionals. Our catering events were stupendous! All local covid protocols were provided without any inconvenience to our group! We have been using this hotel since 2004, and we have always been happy. Also, we were impressed to see that the Hotel San Pedro, used the covid non-travel period as a time to upgrade and refurbish everything, to more elegant and modern facilities, while still keeping the historic Spanish flair. If you are traveling to Puebla City and are in need of a historic location near to everything, then do yourself a favor and stay here!
