Radisson San Jose Costa Rica ★★★★
"We were given a room on the first floor, which felt like the catacombs. It smelled very moldy. When we let Reception know that we could not accept that, they showed us two other rooms, which were similar (on the same floor). Then we were shown a room on the second floor. It was better. If you turned on the aircon, there was also a moldy smell in that room. Everything else was okay. Food great. People helpful. Just need to make sure you get on one of the higher floors"
Jungla Urbana, Bnb ★★
"It was very cold because a lot of wind came in through the bathroom and we only had one sheet. With a blanket and a better door closure, it would have been perfect. Otherwise, it was ideal and I recommend it."
Urban Green Hotel & Suites ★★★★
"If you're looking to explore San Jose, or have a basecamp for exploring the rest of Costa Rica, this hotel offers a great central location, situated right in the middle of San José. Good for walking to restaurants or shops in the city, or joining one of the several sight-seeing excursions which can be easily arranged by the hotel. The rooms are nice, though the decor is a bit dated. The common areas are also well designed for lounging while reading a book or getting to know your fellow travelers staying on the same floor. The breakfast buffet was fairly common for a hotel offering breakfast in Costa Rica, but good, and the area also doubles as a bar at night. Other amenities include a gym with free weights and a couple machines, along with two saunas, one dry and one steam."
Fleur de Lys ★★★
"I unexpectedly liked the hotel's decor. Although the room didn't have air conditioning, it did have a fan, so San Jose wasn't hot at all in the evening. The room wasn't large, but it had everything you needed. While bottled water wasn't free, there was a coffee machine to make complimentary coffee. Rooms on the second floor required climbing stairs. Breakfast was simple and delicious, including bread, eggs, rice, fruit, coffee, tea, and hot milk."
Bee Suites San Jose - Escalante ★★★
"We were very satisfied with our stay. The room and rooftop view were wonderful. We were traveling by rental car, so the free parking was very helpful. The room was generally stylish and very clean. It might be better if they added a kettle to the kitchenware. We booked two rooms, but one of them smelled of cigarettes when we entered, but they offered us an alternative room when we contacted them. I recommend it. Thank you."
Costa Rica Guesthouse ★★★
"The room was decent, but the kitchen and leisure area were located in another building, which was inconvenient."
Delta Hotels by Marriott San Jose Aurola ★★★★
"The bed and sheets were comfortable"
Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Curio Collection by Hilton ★★★★
"Good location Others are average"
Viajero San José Hostel ★★★
"Since I couldn't get on the plane at Hong Kong Airport and the airline refused to let me fly (there is evidence to prove it), I contacted the hotel to check out in time. The hotel customer service said at first that it was OK, check out! Later, I contacted the hotel again, but they didn't reply to my message, kept making excuses, and kept saying it was pending. As of now, 6 days have passed, and the hotel customer service has not replied to any message."

Costa Rica Backpackers
"I'm not sure I'll ever travel to Costa Rica again, but I might come back once my language skills improve. Friends from various countries come here, and while large hostels tend to have a lot of "J" (Japanese-style) noise, this place has none of that, which is nice. I like the quietness of hostels without any programs."
Barceló San José
"It's okay and clean."
Colours Oasis Resort Adult Only
"lovely place, clean and simple, lovely people, bit of a busy road, good breakfast."
Sheraton San Jose Hotel, Costa Rica
"The breakfast spread was incredibly generous."
Hotel Casa Roland San Jose
"I chose this hotel based on the good reviews and art atmosphere. The room was very clean and looked nice. Although we couldn't use the breakfast at the original breakfast times, as we had to leave the hotel for an early for a morning flight, I have asked for a dry package or just something small and coffee in the morning. In the end we got a full and freshly prepared breakfast, packed for us, although they were a bit late and this left us with a limited time. I am grateful to the kitchen staff for this. I would still not stay in Casa Roland again or would not recommend further as I left disappointed by the reception desk staff attitude. When we arrived, the lady was not particularly friendly. I asked about the breakfast as I knew we have to leave at 06:30 the next morning and she told me the kitchen staff comes only at 06:00 and it won't be possible to organise it but then she wrote down to ask again, because I asked for some compensation at the bar or similar. Later on we saw that there was no drinking water in the room or in the lobby and she told me they sell for 2 USD the small bottle. I think this is a rip off and refused as we had water in the car. This was followed by some negative pfffs from the personnel. Just for a comparison - on our first night in San Jose we stayed at a 5 star hotel with all the amenities, water, coffee and so on in the room, the breakfast there started at 06:00, so this was not an issue and the price was 30% cheaper than what I paid for in Casa Roland. It was a mistake I didn't book for a second night there. Please take my comment as an honest review - still grateful to the kitchen staff and the cleaning ladies, as they did a great job."
Four Points by Sheraton San Jose Sabana
"We stayed here just 1 night but everything was perfect. Great breakfast Great service Comfy bed."
Eco Stay CR
"Pleasant place in a quiet section of the city. Walking distance to restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed in the 6-bed dorm. It was fine, but could use some more windows and air flow. There was a powerful fan in the room which made a big difference, but it might be too much wind for people on the top bunks. The fan also had a small red light when it was powered on. The bottom bunks have curtains but I would have found it very annoying if I were on top. Fortunately all the guests were on bottom bunks the one night I was there. They do serve a full, delicious, complimentary breakfast. The hostel is also in walking distance of the bus terminal for Turrialba."
Apartotel & Suites Villas del Rio
Capital Hostel de Ciudad

Irazú Hotel & Studios
"The room is old, the environment is very good, the service is first class"
Balmoral Hotel San José CR, Historic District
"Great location, fantastic staff, spotless room, and an amazing breakfast. The black soup at the restaurant is divine! We have no regrets and are already planning to go back."
Aloft San Jose Hotel, Costa Rica
"Nice hotel and rooms very comfortable. The only issue is the huge traffic jam every morning to get out of the area."
