First thing I am going to say is a big shout out to Dyanna Cervedaria. She was not even the butler for any of our floors or buildings (we had 7 rooms altogether). I knew Dyanna from my last visit (she was our most excellent butler last visit) and she was the only person who recognized me as a returning guest and gave me any kind of service. She arranged for us an a la carte and a special dinner for my family. She checked on us everyday that she was there working (every other day schedule). Our actual butlers were polite and friendly when or if we saw them but were not helpful at all. When asking about a la cartes we were told try tomorrow every time. I also heard there was a special dinner for returning guests from other guests but not from anyone at the hotel. I mentioned that I had been there previously both in my email and at check in. We were very disappointed in the check in process. I had written in advance two times with no response but hopes that out request was being taking care of. Travelling with my dad who can not do more than a few stairs, I had requested a main floor room for him. They checked in the first two rooms of our party into main floors (which we did not know at the time) but when they got to my dad they had none, supposedly. I was told that my only request was rooms close together. I showed my emails but was ignored. They wanted to change his room the next day and did want to comprehend that he was not able to do the stairs physically. it caused us to hold up the line and was very embarrassing for my dad. Not cool at all. Not a great way to start our vacation. It was nice to chat with the entertainment crew I remembered from my last visit, mainly Abrahan and Jordanis. I expect shortages, food, drink, even towels and such and packed accordingly. The food was ok. I always found something to enjoy. What was a bit less acceptable was the state of the public bathrooms. Toilet paper shortages, okay, I packed for that too, but to have only lobby bathrooms and pool bathrooms and both in high need of repairs. That was less acceptable. The men's bathroom in the lobby was completely closed and locked off. All genders shared the three or so of 6 working toilets in the female bathroom. The floors were often flooded and rarely any paper. The general feeling was that the management or "the company" was not taking the priority of repair seriously. As always the Cuban people are lovely and gracious, and so welcoming. The beach is stunning and we had perfect weather. We had a great outing with Nexxus Tours and the rep was very great. Highly recommend renting an exclusive half day charter for 6 people. Despite the minor inconveniences listed above and the ordeal of check in, we had a super vacation. It would have been nice to have not had to deal with the horrible check in and to have had some repair to el banos. If you go, go with the right mindset and pack some extras for comfort.
