Hotel de Compostelle

This is a clean, modern and convenient hotel and it was recommended by the Rick Steves guidebook. Unfortunately, the air conditioning system is broken in our room when my family of three stayed for one night at the end of May 2025. The temperature reached a high of 85 degrees F during the day. We arrived at the hotel around 4pm in the afternoon and the room temperature was tolerable. We tried to adjust the air conditioning unit and could not make it work. I went downstairs to ask the receptionist and she asked for my room number. I gave it to her and she acknowledged that she is aware of the air conditioning unit not working in that room. She apologized and said that the mechanic is waiting for a part that has not arrived. We went out to dinner in the old town in Sarlat and came back to the hotel around 9:30pm and the room temperature was unbearably hot. We opened the balcony door hoping the evening air would eventually cool down the room. Unfortunately, our room with a balcony faces the main street and cars and motorcycles passed through our window the entire evening. Needless to say, we had a very restless night. Given that the hotel apparently was aware that the room's air conditioning system did not work, I am disappointed that it did not inform us when we checked in or offer us a different room. The next morning at checkout, the young man working at the reception was apologetic and offered us a 20 Euro discount which was a nice gesture.

This was our favorite hotel of our trip. The owner is so nice and accommodating. Our room was comfortable and had a lovely terrace overlooking-looking the pool. The lounge area inside and the pool area are nice for having a drink with friends. Very good breakfast and Damman tea! Highly recommend!

We stayed at this hotel as part of a group of 20 people. It is apparently now brand-new (but in an old building) and is clean, comfortable and well-run. Like all hotels all over, they are struggling for staff so the bar was not opened during our 4-night stay but the old town centre is just a hop and a skip away. Breakfast is typical: fruit, cereals, breads, cheeses and cold meat plus yoghurts, pastries etc. No restaurant but we ate each evening at a hotel about 150 m away...beautiful food, artistically presented. As with all (as far as I can see) French hotels, the bath/shower combo was extremely slippery and I recommend taking 2 face flannels (not provided) to stand on! Otherwise, the mum and son patrons are doing a wonderful job.
