Spent a week here with a Riviera tour. It is difficult to find anything to criticise; perhaps the rooms are slightly spartan considering its four star rating; the distinguished 19th century architecture contrasts with the stripped down modern decor. But very comfortable; the bed just right for Goldilocks, not too hard and not too soft. I would have preferred a walk-in shower rather than one over the bath, but that is a matter of taste. Maybe three-star+ rather than four? However the food puts the rating up to 4-star+ if not 5. We stayed on a half board basis, and dinner each night was excellent; four courses, with plenty of choice between meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Breakfast too was a lavish buffet. The staff on reception were courteous and helpful, fluent in English. The restaurant waiters - a mostly young and multi-national group - could not have been more helpful; the head waiter Claudia seemed at first slightly daunting in her stern efficiency, but she soon revealed her charming side and I admire her (and her colleagues') hard work especially when our late return from a day trip caused them all to work involuntary overtime. The location of the hotel is ideal: on the quayside, two minutes away from the lake ferries and within easy walking distance of the fascinating and attractive town centre. There are many lively bars immediately outside, and possibly the rooms with a view also suffer from noise. But tucked away in the heart of the building we didn't hear anything.
