I would.just like to say a few recent reviews had me worried before my trip at the end of Feb to 2nd March. I am glad I didn't stress it too much as they were far off the mark from what myself and 6 friends experienced. We found the staff friendly and helpful. 1 member was a bit more serious and carried out her job to the letter but I will.not complain as she was still friendly and efficient, just a tad abrupt on a couple of requests. The hotel was warm and clean throughout from reception to our room. It is an old building so no lifts, they do apologise about this when you check in but we never had a problem and we were on 3rd floor. 1 member of the group was injured and they offered a room nearer the ground floor but he turned down the kind offer and spent 5 days going up and down the stairs on crutches. We booked with Crystal and in the description it mentions that the kitchen is closed for 1 night and we are reserved a table at another restaurant nearby, 5 mins away no more. This was a great restaurant so no worries there. The Kirchenwirts evening meals were great with decent portion sizes. Breakfast was typical Austrian style with the cereals, bread, cold meats and cheese etc etc. Overall we had no complaints in our group about anything apart from trying to get some bread with the soup in the evening. But bread was.not on the menu, so.....shrugs shoulder. I would be happy to stay there again.

Ignore old reviews and only read the most recent (within the last few months) as this hotel has been taken over by new owners. We stayed here last week for 6 nights and upon arrival the hotel seemed like a nice quaint Austrian Hotel. We arrived late evening and were told we had at least 30 minutes before food as they had a big group in the restaurant anyway. Then 20 minutes later we had a knock on our room door and were shouted at to come down for food as the chefs wanted to go home. The restaurant we had our breakfast and evening meals in had zero a**osphere and you could hear a pin drop. The waitress who served us was unfriendly, aggressive and plain rude (she also had bad hygiene which affected meals). We asked for a wine list and was abruptly told ‘red or white’, another guest kindly mentioned across the tables that there is a wine list in the public restaurant. This is when the waitress told him to be quiet and held her hand up to him! Everything seemed to be an inconvenience and that the other restaurant for the public was the priority. We were also demanded to pay for our drinks every evening (we usually just open a tab and pay at the end of the week). The food was very basic, with the only hot thing at breakfast being a boiled egg (we cooked ourselves). There wasn’t even a toaster! No fruit or yoghurt. The dinner again was basic, salty and very standard soup starter, meat main and ice cream dessert. We were also surprised when we were told Tuesdays & Wednesdays the kitchens closed (in fact the hotel is closed…no one was around) and we were to go to the neighbouring restaurant. However only offered us a main meal there. The rooms were the only perk. Very warm, clean, hot showers. However we had to ask for toilet roll and fresh towels after 2 days, one of the other guests said no one had even been to make their beds! The decor in the hallways was very odd - an old babies cradle, with an ancient book that had a hammer inside? There is also no lift and had to carry our cases up 3 flights of stairs. Fortunately we had gone with ski crystal and we informed them of the issues, which resulted in a slight compensation for the meals we went out for, due to the hotel being so poor!

We stayed for a week with Crystal over Chris**as 2023. The new owners had apparently taken over two weeks earlier. Our Chris**as Eve meal was delicious, a gala dinner that set our expectations high for the quality of the food to come, and a great a**osphere in the restaurant that was open to locals. Unfortunately the rest of the week there were just the 5 tables in a huge restaurant area with no a**osphere while the locals weren’t served in the cosy area to the front of the hotel. My husband was told we couldn’t have a drink in their one night. Each night the bar bill had to be settled which is unusual. We had to pay cash until they finally decided to share the one mobile card between the two rooms. The quality of the evening meals was actually delicious - although limited in choice, it was really good and plenty of it. Pretty traditional Austrian fare. Breakfast was disappointing- exactly the same limited selection every day which got a bit tedious. Even some variety of cereal or fruit would have been welcomed. On the plus side the beds were comfy, the room was clean and the shower was good. The lady at breakfast was friendly and tried her best. On the negative it did feel like their crystal bookings were an inconvenience and we weren’t really welcomed which was a shame. The whole place felt empty, and slightly weird was the hammer that’s inside a large book in one of the hallways!!! We wouldn’t return, even for the very low price we paid.

The first thing you need to do is ignore all the reviews prior to December 7th 2023 as I feel they do not relate to the current situation at this hotel. It changed hands. One of our fellow 'Guests' had stayed before this date and said it was nothing like before. So let's start this honest review from a seasoned traveler who in general does not complain and who has no axe to grind. The hotel itself is a genuine quaint Austrian style hotel with lovely decor outside and in. There are 3 floors and ski/boot room and WC in the basement and restaurants front and rear. There is not a lift, so you will be dragging your baggage to the third floor. The rooms are spacious and carpeted the showers were lovely with plenty of water and rooms are warm. Everything worked and was in good condition. Our first observation was that the rooms aren't cleaned very well and ours were dusty and on several occasions we had to ask for toilet paper. We weren't the only guests to do this. We chose to go the week of the Schladming Night Race which was great as 45,000 crowd attended and the town was buzzing. We were 2 of 10 guests staying, all British but seemed to be an inconvenience to the main clientele who were eating and drinking at the hotel during the event week. The breakfast was a cold only European style buffet, boil your own eggs and no hot option. Plenty of it but limited in choice. The evening meal was a starter, main, dessert , one option only on each and a vegetarian alternative for the main. So if you're a fussy eater you'll be eating out every day. The quality was OK but bearing in mind they were preparing a la carte for their outside guests it really made you feel like you weren't valued. Even to the point that they dressed the tables putting green runners on all the tables whereas the guest tables were bare. Now you may think I'm being precious here but it made you feel like a 'them and us' situation. The staff weren't particularly friendly and our hostess always appeared to be sweating and stressed, she was constantly rushing about. Perhaps more staff needed? Where we ate was a cash only bar, yet in the other bar it was card and cash. We later found out the only reason for this was that they didn't have two card machines. Now how difficult would that be, honestly. This came to a head when I refused to pay cash (i didn't have any in my wallet) and said tough, it's card or nothing. She stomped off got the card machine from the other bar, and I paid by card to a lot of huffing and puffing. We also discovered that they do not stock diet pepsi or coke so if you only drink this buy some and take it to the bar with you. Other reviews mention the smell of the kitchens emulating around the hotel. When I read this i thought perhaps this was someone being picky but actually it really is smelly. Shame we didn't get to taste what they were cooking. So Ladies Gents and others if you're after culinary choice you might need to find somewhere else. If

Fabulous stay at this lovely quaint traditional family run hotel in the heart of Schladming just 10mins walk from the train station. Albert, Mama Tritscher and staff were exceptionally welcoming, courteous, attentive, friendly, helpful and incredibly efficient and couldn’t do enough for us. Our spotlessly clean spacious room on 3rd floor was quiet, cosy and super comfortable. The stairs (no lift) might be a challenge for some but was fine for us. Firm and comfy bed, powerful shower with excellent pressure, lashings of hot water and ample toiletries, plentiful wardrobe storage and hangers, good sized desk and pleasant seating area, and flatscreen TV was perfect. Our half board meal option was prompt, piping hot, hearty and delicious. The simple continental breakfast and traditional ‘home-cooked’ 3-course evening meals had variety and choice and was tasty and filling; absolutely perfect after a day’s skiing and the evening A La Carte menu was sumptuous and delicious too! We thoroughly enjoyed our exhilarating skiing holiday and super relaxing and restful stay and would highly recommend this lovely quaint traditional Austrian hotel as the perfect base to discover all that Schladming and the stunning surrounding mountains and outdoors activities that Austria has to offer. Thank you family Tritscher for a wonderful stay. We’ll be back! ❤️

We came here with Crystal Ski and probably had the basic rooms, these were a great size and ideal for us. No tea or coffee facilities in the room which is not uncommon but something my wife loves to have. If you want a new sparkly hotel that could be anywhere in the world this is not for you, if on the other hand you prefer something that has character and a homely feel, then stay here. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, it is a family run hotel and you could tell they cared. The food was great and plenty of it, we were half board, there was not the biggest range at breakfast, but no one went hungry. Dinner was lovely every night and more than enough, if it were not to be enough they would happily give you extra. It was my wifes birthday when we were here and they went way above and beyond when I told them, they could not have been more helpful and helped make it a special day. Their bar was the cheapest we found and served large beers unlike some of the bars in the town that only served small for a similar price to what we paid for a large. It is only a 5 minute walk to the main gondola where you can hire a locker to keep your ski gear in, a locker for 4 was 14 euros a day. All in all we would definately come back here if we ski again in Schladming. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Kirchenwirt who made our stay so great.

We were given a warm welcome as soon as we arrived. Although late on arrival meal was prepared and ready. Great meals with large portions. We were told to ask if we needed more or salad etc. we had the side salad on a few occasions which was delicious. Rooms were clean tidy and warm. Shower was first class. No cooking smells in our room as previously mentioned! Very happy with it. Nicely positioned to walk to the centre of town and the Planai ski lifts. Thanks to the staff for making our week comfortable and friendly

A lovely cosy and warm traditional hotel. Not too far from the ski slopes and central for all amenities. We travelled with Crystal ski and were more than happy with the hotel. Nice polite staff, good wholesome well cooked food at dinner and breakfast. Thanks to all staff, a very pleasant stay.

Very cozy, clean and warm hotel based in the heart of Schladming about a 10-minute walk to the main Planai lift in ski boots. It's a little quirky but that's what makes it so nice I think. The staff are very friendly and helpful, booking taxis for us to and from the train station etc when asked. The food in the evening was typical Austrian I think, mostly pork based with potatoes or dumplings on the side but little in the way of other vegetables but very enjoyable. We had room 310 on the 3rd floor of the hotel; no lift in the hotel, which included twin beds, a sofa to watch TV from, and a desk to work from plus a good-sized shower room and toilet. The room was kept very clean and the towels were changed midweek for us. There is a ski room downstairs for ski and boot storage. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
