whats very good: Staff Service Excellent Easy access - down ladder - to sea whats good: good WiFi signal Rooms, Main Area, Jetty food - breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner - too much actually in-room fridge quiet rooms** 3 meals + tea included in-room snacks and soft drinks included what could improve: we expected total privacy - vendors in outboard motorboats and sampans kept approaching our unit when they see us sitting on the deck or swimming; they hassle us into buying stuff - from coconuts to live lobsters - and don't leave easily - we weren't interested in as we have meals and tea covered in our package. a boat with 2 sampans in tow always directly in front of our unit - eventhough approx 500-600 meters away - made us feel uncomfortable and invading our privacy No Emergency Protocols in place 7.9 or 8.2 earthquake with epicentre in Mindanao - across the Sulu Sea - there was no information or updates from staff on the situation - we were having breakfast when we felt the main area swaying when there were no waves we only got news on our mobile when back in the room we delayed our morning swim and went into water around 9.50 am. Had a few very strong waves hitting us. Asked a passing staff regarding the quake, he said no problems. after the swim we got news on our mobile that there was a Tsunami warning out and 0.4m wave could be hitting the shores of Semporna, Tawau and few other coastal cities of Eastern Sabah between 9.30am and 12.30pm 🤷🏾♂️ thankfully we survived to be able to write this.

The room itself was a bit dated, and if you have a lot of luggage, it might be a tight squeeze. The bedding quality felt more like a guesthouse in a small town. However, the hotel's surroundings are beautiful. From our overwater bungalow, we could see all sorts of fish, and at night, the spotlights under the bungalow lit up the underwater world perfectly. When we stayed, there were only two occupied bungalows, and the hotel provided incredibly generous meals (plus afternoon tea). Each meal had 4-5 dishes, which was far too much for just two people to finish!

This overwater bungalow requires a boat transfer from Myding Lodge, which takes about 20-25 minutes. It's crucial to contact the hotel in advance to register for fixed boat transfer slots. Before my trip, I saw quite a few negative reviews online, so my expectations weren't high. I even double-checked the exact pick-up point with the hotel multiple times. However, upon arriving at the hotel, the stunning shallow waters and coral reefs along the boardwalk immediately dispelled my initial worries. The natural scenery here is truly exceptional. After a smooth check-in at the lobby, the staff informed us of the specific dining times for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. We then proceeded to our room. Regarding the actual room experience: the interior tends to be stuffy, and the air conditioning unit is quite noisy. Earplugs are definitely needed for a peaceful night's sleep. The water pressure in the bathroom is low, though not as bad as some reviews claimed (like a mere trickle). However, the faucet couldn't be completely turned off at night, leading to a constant dripping sound that somewhat disturbed our rest. Of course, the room type also had its highlights. I booked the Deluxe room, which came with lounge chairs and a popular hammock net on the balcony, perfect for relaxing in the evening. However, the hammock net was surrounded by wooden boards and nails, making it feel a bit unsafe, so we didn't dare to use it for too long. The room also had a private ladder directly into the sea, which is fantastic for guests who love to swim. The hotel offers complimentary rental services. Snorkeling enthusiasts can borrow masks from the front desk, and kayaks are also available for free, making for an excellent water activity experience. The waters in front of the hotel lobby are rich in coral. The best time for snorkeling is between 3-4 PM daily during high tide, when you can see numerous fish and extensive coral formations, creating a breathtaking view. During our stay, we often encountered Bajau people in small boats selling seafood. I highly recommend bargaining boldly for the best price. After a successful negotiation, you can have the hotel kitchen prepare it. On our first night, the processing fee was 10 MYR per dish, but it increased to 15 MYR on the second night. The prepared dishes were decent and satisfactory for everyday meals. The hotel's own buffet quality was rather average, and dining options would be quite limited if you didn't purchase seafood elsewhere. Overall, the biggest advantage of this overwater bungalow is its excellent privacy. You can quietly await the sunrise in the morning and enjoy the beautiful sunset in the evening, completely undisturbed by others. It's perfectly suited for those seeking a peaceful getaway and a close connection with nature.

The experience at Semporna Sky Water Villas exceeded all expectations! My friend and I stayed in the Starlight Villa for two days, and it was truly beyond what we imagined. As soon as we arrived on the island, we were stunned by the scenery: the crystal-clear glass-like sea shimmered with various shades of blue and green under the sun. The wooden boardwalk, flanked by lush greenery, blended beautifully with the seascape – every photo we took looked like a postcard. The view from the Starlight Villa was simply incredible, with our balcony directly facing the ocean. In the evenings, we watched the orange and pink sunset paint the sea like a masterpiece, and at night, we could lie on the terrace and gaze at the Milky Way and countless stars. It was so romantic, we were speechless. The room facilities were clean and thoughtful; the wooden floors and furniture had a subtle oceanic scent, and both the shower water temperature and bedding comfort were perfect. The staff's service was truly top-notch, from their warm welcome upon arrival to actively recommending local specialties during meals, and even thoughtfully reminding us of the best time to catch the sunset. Every detail reflected their warmth. Whether it was a morning stroll on the boardwalk listening to the waves or relaxing on the terrace in the afternoon breeze, it allowed us to completely unwind. Half of the beautiful memories from this trip came from Semporna's sea, and the other half from this perfect water villa. We're already planning our next visit!

What a waste of money and lifetime. Save your money for better places, trust me.  First of all, there are 95% Chinese and everyone whoever traveled and met some, knows, they have no manners at all. Not all of them, to be fair, but most of them and especially elders or those with a lower level of education.  Once we even couldn’t get any food or a dining table, except rice, cold shrimps, some watermelon slices and a seat with a kind of couchtable, super inconvenient. A group of 3 Chinese People took a whole table for their drinks only that evening, and the staff wasn‘t doung anything about it, which is a shame, because if I know that there are limited tables, I have to communicate it in a proper way, a no-brainer basically.  Food is a special topic, if you‘re not fast enough they just take all the food, even though they won‘t eat all, but it will be on their plate, so you have to be fast.  Everything in here is just super inconvenient for the price you pay, as well as the the communication with the host itself, it‘s horrible. Sometimes they don’t even answer at all and do not even know their own check-in regulations.  The hygiene of the rooms isn’t good at all, there are a lot of flies or Moquietos, difficult to tell what that exactly is, even robbed one night of sleep, since they gather on the sealing and randomly fall off, usually over the bed of course, horrible experience. It is not tidy at all and in addition to that, it is really noisy. The fan is super loud, the AC is even louder, the light does also not work the proper way. The bathroom is always wet, since the sink is leaking and also making squeezing noises at night. The WIFI is also not that stable, just like the electricity is switichting off an in again, like 5 times a day, only a break of seconds, but still annoying.  The door to the balcony also can’t be closed, which I read in another recommendation even before I went here, which shows that the owner doesn‘t care at all.  Since there is no supermarket or anything here, you have to rely on the stuff you get here, at the resort, which is absolutely not appropriate to what you pay and obviously not enough for everyone, I highly recommend to book some other property. It‘s really not worth your money.  The guys who drive the boat shuttle are super kind and friendly, just as most of the staff, that’s working there. It‘s like basically all around Asia, they just get told to do this and that, the circumstances are not their fault, at least not all of them, which makes the whole thing not better or more worse, but shows that the problems need to be adressed the right way.  Don’t get me wrong, the view and waking up next to the sea is quite nice, but that’s not the whole vacation, that’s a single moment, which a lot of other properties will provide as well. Unfortunately I can‘t share videos of the immense noice everything in that room makes.

The staff can communicate in English. If you need to speak in Chinese, you can contact them beforehand via WeChat – they can translate everything, haha. Just book your boat transfer time in advance and wait. The overwater bungalow is quite nice, and the value for money is decent. Of course, don't have overly high expectations; there aren't many fish nearby, and on the day I was there, the waves were really strong, so I basically didn't dare to go into the water. The food is acceptable, and the shrimp were good. Some dishes might run out once they're gone, but overall it was okay.

Overall, it's pretty good. It's an older hotel, but the various services are quite well-executed. The best part is the seafood chef here – far superior to the paid ones at the pier. The salted egg yolk mantis shrimp is absolutely divine! I highly recommend buying fresh seafood and having them prepare it, or keeping an eye out for vendors who row up to the water bungalows in the afternoon. Of course, the pier still offers a wider variety, but the travel time back and forth can be inconvenient. On the downside, it's quite noisy. The generator and AC units are very loud. I hadn't anticipated this, but I assume most water bungalows are probably similar. The two Malaysian girls at the front desk were quite cautious; they had to confirm everything with someone else. We just wanted to go ashore to buy something and come back, but it took ages to get permission, and they still didn't agree in the end. Also, the facilities are a bit old and wobbly. The food is just so-so; it fills you up, but that's about it.

Highly recommended! Stayed in sunset bungalow, i was a little worried before coming after reading the lowest reviews of this place but honestly, didn’t see any of the stuff people complained about. Some of the wood can give splinters but i was bare foot the whole time and had no issue. Staff was great, always available. Our room was very cozy and had no issues with AC, hot water which seemed to be common among the complainers. Food was very good, every meal, water and drinks always available. The afternoon tea was phenomenal too always. Snorkelling was pretty good overall, although little current as tide was coming in but no issue. Sunset and sunrise was beautiful both days and its rainy season, didn’t rain at all. Overall me and my wife had a very relaxing and fun time. For those who complained about the stuff they did, they musta been very unlucky or just winey little babies. The pictures we got here is absolutely maldives level stuff and i’ve been to maldives as well. Quiet little paradise here, very worth staying 2 days! Lastly, bring your own alcohol, there’s fridges in room!
