Myeongdong Merlin Hotel

Our room was unexpectedly hello kitty theme which was hilarious as we found nothing about it online ?? Bathroom situation wasn’t the best… but overall the room was clean, staff was incredibly kind and helpful, and the hotel is close to a lot of cool places in Myeongdong without being right in the hustle and bustle of night life!

The location is quite far if you’re planning to walk to Myeongdong Street. It’s still manageable, but definitely not as convenient as staying closer to Myeongdong Station. Another downside is the transparent toilet door, which isn’t very privacy-friendly, especially when sharing the room with friends or family. On the positive side, they provide free coffee, tea, and drinking water in the lobby, which is a nice touch. Overall, the location and room comfort could be improved, but the complimentary drinks in the lobby were definitely a plus.

We had a really great experience at Myeongdong Merlin Hotel. The location was very convenient, just one subway stop from the main Myeongdong area. Our room was spacious with a very high ceiling and a large glass wall facing the street, which gave us a beautiful view, especially during sunrise and sunset. The room was cleaned every day, and all the hotel facilities and amenities were more than sufficient for our stay.

Location is good. Away from hustle bustle of the tourist spot. 3 bus stops away to myeongdong. Trains about 5-7mins walk. There’s bakeries nearby the hotel, across the road at the junction which we only noted on last night there.. up the street.  The room is kind of old. Broken wardrobe n toilet no seperator btwn wet n dry. Shower hose cant adjust the position, so if u let it hang n shower, water will flow outdoor. There’s a gap in the bathroom door. Had to hold the shower hose while showering. No area to put the shower gel or shampoo. Hv to keep going to the sink to pump it. Toilet rolls poor quality. There is no conditioner too. Ironing items to take from counter. Its a small one.. hv to use on the floor! I booked family room with namsan tower view but was given without namsan view! When i asked the counter man, he said we gave u a bigger room but that was not communicated during checked in. N i saw that all rooms are the same actually! He got angry when i said the room are old n broken. N iron board not available! He shouted ! So poor customer service! Cleaning not properly done. Hair in the bathroom n the plastic from toothbrush is still there for 3 days!! Its on top of toilet roll box! I should hv checked carefully before booking..

The wallpaper of the room was quite worn out, making the room ambience look very old and dull/boring. However, it was clean and overall acceptable although it felt more like an apartment rather than a hotel. Despite that, the amenities were excellent, we appreciate the free flow drinking water dispenser and coffee, biscuits etc. at the lobby pantry. The only downside is that for a room for 5 people, they only provide 1 room card allowed, which is quite an hassle for obvious reasons.

Pros: Great location – only 10 min walk to 4 metro lines. The hotel is quite old but well-maintained. Towels changed daily. Lobby has a microwave and hot/cold water – convenient for quick meals. Staff was friendly. Cons: No shower curtain – the bathroom gets completely wet after showering. Overall: Good value for money. Would stay again despite the minor bathroom issue.
