This was our first time in Gambia. The hotel was right on the beach and a perfect location. The staff were always smiling and happy. Always happy to help. The food was always fresh and had enough variety for everyone. A special thank you to Aisha who kept us smiling and entertained. Going to miss my water aerobics. To Milton for being so friendly and chatting to us about Gambia. To Amadou for making my fresh omelette every morning. They were the best. To Alex for always keeping our room clean and the special little touches he left us. To Ricki in guest relations for showing me around the newly renovated rooms. We had a beach bungalow which had plenty of room and all the amenities. Can highly recommend this hotel.

Great location, right on the beach. It's a 3.5 star hotel but really very nice and clean. It's very secure (entry gate to premises and guards on the accesses to the beach). This is good as there will always be chancers hanging around on the beach trying to entice you into all sorts of stuff! All inclusive deal when I went and the food is plentiful and actually very good. I had one of the bungalows which was absolutely fine but there are more modern and recently renovated rooms available in a new block. I came for the birding so was out very early every morning, and although my room was a few rows back, you can hear the nightly entertainment but it stops at 10pm so it's not bad. A variety of bands, drumming groups etc. The staff are fabulous. SO friendly and genuinely interested in you and the quality of your stay. Pools are clean and always being tended to. For me, the best bit was the most amazing Hady who works at the on premises STAR SPA. I had a series of three massages and I can honestly say she is the best masseuse I have ever used anywhere in the world (and I've used a few). I walk and carry photography gear for hours every day and she managed to completely unlock my neck and back. The guys who run it (Ahmed and Sacha) are so friendly too. Highly recommend booking yourself in there if you can. I didn't venture out for shopping or social life being a woman on my own, but the Gambian birding association is just by the hotel entrance and there are always very professional and knowledgeable guides there who will drive you right from there. There's so much to see away from the built up area. I'd definitely go back as it's low key, friendly, affordable, clean and good value.

Sunset beach has a lovely pool overlooking beach, never had a problem getting a sun bed. All staff from the reception right through the hotel are extremely friendly, attentive, smiling, will help with anything you need. Food is varied, hot and tasty, and always refilled. Have facility to refill water bottles. Lots of returning guests, which speaks for itself. No problem with bumsters on the beach, not that many really. Beautiful long sandy beach. for leisurely walks, although high waves and unable to swim. Very safe hotel and area.

My second holiday at Sunset Beach Hotel and it was equally as good, if not better, than my first visit a year ago. This time I had one of their deluxe rooms, which were being renovated when I was there last year. It was beautiful and kept spotlessly clean by Morrow, my cleaner. The entire staff are amazing, so friendly and courteous, and go out of their way to ensure that I and everyone else enjoy their stay. To name a few - John the Baptist worked tirelessly around the pool, moving sunbeds, umbrellas, cleaning the pools in a very efficient but quiet manner. Lamin and all bar/dining room staff were so attentive in providing requested drinks, clearing and cleaning tables, and all have such lovely and polite personalities. I could not fault the food at all, as I couldn't on my first visit. Plenty of choice at every meal time with something to suit all guests. I enjoyed every meal I had and especially liked the variety of soups available at lunch and evening meal. Thank you to Amadou and his team 😋 The Tui rep, Jerry, was available at the hotel every morning. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with any questions/queries I had about excursions, local visits, transport etc. The gardens are immaculate and beautifully maintained by the gardening team. The entertainment each evening was varied and very enjoyable! I had another fabulous stay at Sunset Beach Hotel and an amazing holiday again. ❤️ Thank to everyone at the hotel for their part in allowing me to do so 🙏🏽 I'll definitely return once again to this beautiful Country 🇬🇲 and hotel! 😍

A lovely, not-too-large hotel with a very friendly atmosphere and a beautiful garden. The food selection wasn’t huge, but every dish was delicious and well prepared. I love seafood , fish, beef. The location is fantastic, right next to an incredibly wide beach, with a nearby river estuary that makes the area truly unique. A perfect place to relax. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would happily recommend it to others. The suite was cleaned every day, comfortable, and well-maintained. Special thanks to the staff, who were always helpful and smiling — especially Muhammed, Ammadou, Isatou, Ebrina Jammeh, Assan but many others as well.

Let me start by saying this was a difficult review to construct as my wife and I had a lovely, warm relaxing holiday, which is what we hoped for. I will start with the negative…and it is a major issue. The food!!! Breakfast - hot egg station was good. Bread, butter and jam for toast. Have never seen rice pudding served for breakfast!!! Management and Head Chef - The milk and yogurt you serve is NOT placed in a refrigerated unit, but left in the sun, on a wooden shelf? On our last day I kept a note. The milk was placed out at 7am and was still out at midday…I have the photos to prove this. Coffee and Orange Juice…I lost count how many times this ran out. Flies over the bacon. No choice of pastries, only bland croissants. Lunch and Dinner - We never, once, had “hot” food. Warm yes, but not hot. There was a fish dish available one day. It had cooled so much the sauce had turned to a jelly like substance. Why put cling film over hot dishes? It makes the meat or fish sweat….not good food serving practice. More importantly there was NO information or notice about any food allergies at all. Nothing stating may contain nuts, nothing about shell fish. When I asked about this the staff member shrugged her shoulders and walked off!! The pasta station - I have never been to an all inclusive hotel that doesn’t put meat or chicken in the pasta and actually cook the pasta in front of guests in boiling water….how long is the pasta sat in the heat that is used with the sauces? The desert selection was awful. Dried cake, tinned fruit used in and on various deserts, unset jelly, only one evening was a hot pudding available. Ice cream was not on display…you have to ask for it and it’s not available before 3pm?? Thought this was all inclusive? And to round off a terrible desert selection, we found Jacob’s Cream Crackers used to decorate muffins and other deserts and flies on cakes. The so called afternoon snacks were awful. Chips, two fried offerings and normally left over cake and desserts from lunch. Loads of guests were speaking around the pool about the poor offerings. We were so concerned about the food we ended up walking along the beach to a fabulous bar and restaurant with an amazing menu and eating there….as were other guests. Hot, tasty food. Hotel Management and Tui - you really need to address the multiple issues noted about the food offering before someone falls badly ill. And yes, we do know what we are talking about as I am an Occupational Health and Safety Manager and my wife’s father is a Michelin star chef. The positives - The staff in this hotel are absolutely fantastic. They make this place tic over and keep the guests happy. Our bungalow room was basic but functional. Great hot water, fridge, safe and a huge bed. Would be good to see some African, bright paintings on the wall. The gardens are stunning….hats off to the crew that keep these looking as pristine as they are. There is a money change office and a good little shop to buy

Our first visit to Gambia we couldn’t have picked a more perfect hotel. The staff are all just wonderful happy and welcoming! the hotel is clean the food is exceptional.. I am a fussy eater but was spoilt for choice.. so many flavoursome dishes always hot and fresh the food for Christmas Eve and New Year was outstanding! The waiting staff also worked so hard to make things special.. we came as guests and left as friends.. Cleaners worked hard our room was cleaned daily fresh towels when required.. beach towels in your room when you arrive too! located on the beach front ! Live music every night.. highly recommended .. if you like branded drinks take them with you .. mixers are good no nasty mixers on tap .. wine beer was just fine.. we look forward to our next visit
