THE ONE Shanghai Downtown Vignette Collection by IHG Reviews

I stayed at this hotel back when it was still the Kempinski and always had a pleasant experience. This time, under the new IHG Vignette Collection branding, the stay fell far short of expectations. Upon arrival, there was no one outside to assist with luggage. Staff members only rushed out after they saw me already pulling my bags from the car myself. The check-in process was noticeably slower, and I wasn’t offered an upgrade — which used to be a regular, appreciated gesture during my previous stays. I was given one of the smallest rooms I’ve ever had in this hotel. The room itself had several issues. The microwave didn’t work at all, so I couldn’t heat up the takeaway I’d brought. The bedroom TV remote wasn’t responsive; I struggled with it for a long time and eventually just managed to turn the TV off, but not control it. The worst part was the noise from the room above — constant, disruptive sounds that went on until well past midnight, severely affecting my sleep. I did call reception about it, but the noise continued. Checkout felt impersonal and rushed. No one asked how my stay was. I simply handed over my room key and that was it. When my pre-ordered car had trouble finding the hotel entrance, I handed the phone to a staff member expecting them to guide the driver. Instead, he simply found out where the car was parked, handed the phone back, and left me to drag my luggage there on my own. The only positive is the central location, which remains excellent. But for service, room comfort, and attention to detail, this was a letdown. I hope they can bring back the standards they used to have.

The rooms are really big and nice. Location is perfect. I extended my stay for two days and I’ll definitely be back!

Convenient location with a huge 7-11 across it. Lobby had a high ceiling and looks welcoming. Deco of the rooms is towards old and rich vibe with a bathtub view that allows you to look out

The service was great, and it offered excellent value for money. The room was exceptionally well-lit. I'll definitely be staying here again!

Traveling with kids and family, choosing this hotel was absolutely the right decision! The hotel is very easy to find and close to the subway station, so no worries about transportation when going out with children. The room was spacious, and in addition to basic amenities, they also provided children's slippers and toothbrushes, which was a very thoughtful touch. The hotel staff were incredibly nice, and our overall stay was very pleasant. My family was very satisfied!

The room was spacious and the bathroom had a great vibe. The hotel service was excellent, they even allowed me a late check-out until 4 PM for my work, which was incredibly convenient. The location is also fantastic, very close to Jing'an, People's Square, and Nanjing Walking Street.

The room was clean and the location was excellent, perfect for a family trip. The breakfast spread was plentiful, and the overall service was great! It's right next to Nanjing Road shopping area! And if you're taking the kids to the Natural History Museum, it's super convenient!

It's now called The One Shanghai under IHG collection. Great hotel, great staff service. Even paid attention to minor issues during the stay due to its ongoing renovations. But no disruption or impact to the quality of stay.

Fantastic! Even though there is a change in management, there has been no decline in service. Lilly Li was superb at check-in; she was thorough and fast, allowing me to get to my room and sleep ASAP after 27 hours of travelling! It was also great to note that my preferences were remembered - even despite the management change. Breakfast was charming as the chef brought the spirit of Chinese New Year to our plates with creative steamed buns and expanded Chinese fare. My staying here will continue as long as the tradition of excellence continues!

Good stay and welcome staff

The suite is perfect for families with kids. We ordered room service for dinner since we didn't feel like going out, and the food was pretty good. Breakfast is à la carte. Mike at the front desk was really helpful and provided excellent service. We'll definitely choose this hotel again next time.

The room was great, and the capsule coffee machine was a nice touch, making it really convenient. The facilities were comprehensive, and there was plenty of space. Staying for a few days was very relaxing. The location is good for taxis, but there aren't many dining or entertainment options nearby as it's a residential area. However, there are tons of delivery choices, including all sorts of trendy spots; you just have to go downstairs to pick them up. I didn't interact much with the service, but the cleaning lady was lovely.

Everything is within expectation with room cleanliness, size. Front office is best service of hotel. But the breakfast is very poor selection and non service.

The hotel’s location is very good. It is about a 5-minute walk to a huge Starbucks, Nanjing West Road, the MRT station, and Wujiang Road, which has several nice bakeries and food options. This made getting around very convenient. There was also a 7-11 just across the road. However, the Premier Two-Bedroom Suite was disappointing for the price paid. The rooms are rather small, especially the master bedroom, where there was not enough space to place or open any luggage. We had to keep our luggage in the living room instead. The bathroom, particularly the shower area, looked very dated. The tiles appeared old and there was a musty smell, which was unpleasant. Another inconvenience was that the light switches were only on one side of the bed, making it very inconvenient to switch off the lights from the other side. The kitchenette was also very small. Cutlery was stored in a drawer above the bin, which was not ideal, and there were no extra plates provided. The tiles looked old with visible cracks, and some of the drawers were faulty. Overall, the room did not feel premium and felt overpriced for what was offered. The hotel rooms clearly need a glow-up to match the Kempinski brand and the rates charged. Additionally, the reception area was undergoing renovation, with no seating or waiting area. The pick-up and drop-off driveway is very narrow, only a small lane. When loading our luggage, we had to do so very quickly as other cars were waiting. The driveway would benefit from being more spacious. While the location is excellent, the room condition, layout, and facilities did not meet expectations for a Premier suite.
