Magnificent International Hotel(Xintiandi People's Square)

Traveling through Shanghai with two friends on our way to Suzhou, we booked a family room. The location was super convenient with plenty of great food options nearby, and it was excellent value for money!

This hotel, located in the city center and supposedly able to accommodate foreign guests, was truly terrible. The window wouldn't close, there was no screen, and it was right next to a busy road. The rooms at the back were also right next to a construction site. The bathroom had very deep water stains, and there was a sewer smell throughout the room. The staff were incredibly rude, acting as if I owed them money.

Great location with a nice view from the window. The room was okay, not huge, and the bathroom was a bit compact. The staff were really enthusiastic, especially the young lady at the front desk. She proactively asked if I needed toiletries and even extended my room card's validity until 2 PM, which I really appreciate. The amenities were a bit odd: the air conditioner only had a knob to adjust fan speed, no temperature control. And the TV kept buffering; it was really annoying trying to watch the World Cup with constant interruptions.

The hotel's location is pretty good, close to a subway entrance. It's not far from the Site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Sihang Warehouse, the Bund, and the City God Temple – all accessible by bus or subway. Picture 1 was taken at the hotel, and Picture 3 was taken on the way to the Sihang Warehouse. The environment is also decent, though the soundproofing is just okay. There was some construction going on near our room at the time. The hotel facilities are a bit old, but the cleanliness is alright. Breakfast offers both Chinese and Western options, but the variety and taste are quite average. Noodles and mini wontons have to be ordered separately from a window, but they are free. There were many foreigners of various ethnicities. About 400 meters from the hotel, there's a Shanghai restaurant called "Shanghai No. 1" that's worth trying; it's popular with local Shanghainese.
