Capella Shanghai Jian Ye Li

This has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. As one of Shanghai's most expensive hotels, I never expected it to be so bad. First, the soundproofing is terrible. I could hear people walking on the stairs and opening/closing doors in other rooms from my own room. Multiple times in the morning, I thought someone had entered my room. Second, the designer of this hotel is an absolute genius for putting the bedroom and bathroom on different floors. So, if you need to use the restroom in the middle of the night, you have to climb a flight of stairs to get there. I strongly advise against staying here if you have elderly family members or children; it could genuinely be life-threatening. I actually fell, thankfully only scraping my hand. Also, the bottled water comes in these incredibly difficult-to-open aluminum cans that can easily cut you. I can't understand whether safety is more important or their so-called environmental protection.

It's been over two years since my last stay, and the hotel's facilities haven't changed much. The weather in Shanghai during late spring/early summer is delightful. Capella Jian Ye Li offers a serene escape amidst the bustling city. The fragrance of flowers and the warm breeze melt away anxieties, making you involuntarily slow down. It's an even better experience than visiting in winter. Location: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Nestled in the heart of the former French Concession, the city's cultural core, close to Wukang Road and Hengshan Road. Overall Environment: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A rare, large-scale complex of old Shanghai Shikumen architecture, brimming with historical charm and a sense of peaceful leisure. Room Space: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The standard room type is a three-story suite with two bathrooms. Interior Decor: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Elegant Chinese aesthetics blended with Western elements, creating a classic 'Hapao' (Shanghai style) ambiance. Mattress & Bedding: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The mattress provides excellent support, ensuring high-quality sleep and alleviating my chronic back pain. Bathroom: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 The large-bottle toiletries are of good quality, and the water flow and pressure are adequate. The main bathroom has a single vanity, and the overall bathroom space feels a bit compact. Breakfast: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Likely one of the best breakfasts in Shanghai hotels. The French restaurant offers an elegant setting, a la carte dining, and a wide variety of dishes. The ingredients and seasoning are superb, especially the Western-style egg dishes, which are of exceptionally high quality. Highly recommend the Eggs Florentine. In-room Beverages: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 There's a welcome fruit platter, and the mini-fridge is well-stocked with various complimentary soft drinks. The bar cabinet offers several alcoholic beverages at an acceptable mark-up. Service: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Other: The historic architectural features are distinctive, but frequently going up and down stairs can be a bit inconvenient – I just tell myself you can't have your cake and eat it too. The hotel also offers many art therapy activities that I didn't get a chance to try, leaving me a reason to return.

Feeling bored during the May Day holiday, I spontaneously decided to book a hotel and spend a day relaxing. Capella truly stands out among five-star hotels. Even though I grew up in a traditional Shikumen house, where my family of three squeezed into one room, none of them were as spacious as Capella's bathroom! The hygiene, service, and dining were all excellent. The room's fragrance was very elegant; as someone very sensitive to smells, I usually bring my own diffuser when staying at hotels, but Capella's scent was incredibly soothing and relaxing. I never take hotel amenities, but I couldn't resist asking the evening staff for an extra set – I absolutely adore the Frederic Malle scent. The afternoon tea service in the library seemed a bit understaffed, but there was a tall, bespectacled young woman whose awareness and service were spot-on, a definite plus. The in-room dining was a hit with the kids, very prompt, and the staff were extremely polite. Navigating the stairs can indeed be inconvenient; the section leading to the terrace is particularly steep, making it a hassle to go up and down for things. There was only one person at the front desk sometimes, so I occasionally had to wait. However, none of these minor points will stop me and my child from our 'date' – we'll definitely be back to stay and play for a day every holiday!

The service here is consistently comfortable and welcoming. If you want to experience the local culture of Shanghai on foot, I highly recommend staying here. When you're tired from walking, just find a cafe, sit down, observe the world, and enjoy some quiet. When I'm in Capella's little building, it reminds me of a phrase I once read: "Finding peace in the midst of noise, and warmth in a cool place." The true joys of life are found in Jian Ye Li. Capella truly offers delightful discoveries everywhere.

This hotel, with its unique Shikumen architectural style, offers an excellent environment, great service, and fantastic food. It's perfect for slowing down and truly enjoying a peaceful moment. The hotel also has many activities, with the breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening rituals all being wonderful.

The hotel is great and has a lot of character. The room service far exceeds many five-star hotels. The breakfast could use some improvement, but the spa experience was excellent, with great service and facilities.

Absolutely beautiful. The restaurant and bar are super stylish, and I had a great chat with the handsome bartender. I'd definitely choose Capella again when I come back to Shanghai.

The service was truly exceptional! They even prepared a special cake for my birthday. A big shoutout to Ms. Raven in particular, who was so patient and thoughtful. She took note of my family's preferences in advance and went out of her way to prepare everything, showing such great care. It was an absolutely wonderful stay!
