Tiger Leaping Gorge Tea-Horse Guesthouse Reviews

The room was a bit basic, but I originally booked a quad room, and the owner upgraded me to a double room. It turned out the other person didn't show up, so I had the whole room to myself. The view outside is really amazing, it's right by the Tea Horse Inn, the starting point for hiking. It was so relaxing just sitting on the balcony and zoning out.

Had a really great experience! I originally booked a room with a shared bathroom, but since there was availability, the owner upgraded me for free to a room with a private bathroom. The tomato beef noodles for breakfast were pretty good too, at 20 yuan a bowl. And the scenery outside the guesthouse is beautiful!

Great location! The balcony offers direct mountain views. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and unique. The food was delicious too! Plus, it's right next to hiking trails, which is super convenient for trekkers.

My first motorcycle trip at thirty was a special one, as I made sure to visit the Tea Horse Inn, which is recommended by National Geographic as a stop along a hiking trail. As soon as I rode to the foot of the mountain, I was absolutely stunned by the scenery; I couldn't find the right words to describe it. Stepping into the inn, I realized the view was even more amazing, far surpassing what I saw at the foot of the mountain. The super-large viewing balcony is truly perfect for someone like me who loves to zone out and relax. Sitting here, watching the mountains, is incredibly therapeutic. The landlady and the staff were all incredibly warm and attentive, helping me solve many travel challenges. My experience was top-notch, and I highly recommend staying here if you're in the area!

really good location for a shorter day 1 walk. plenty of space and hairdrers for drying out clothes. Lots of food options too. As of time i went (july 2026) the main section of gorge where you get to the rapids is closed. You can go further down from hill to woodys guesthouse and get to the rapids there. From tea horse guesthouse, down to the rapids and back to the bus stop at tina’s, i think it took me around 6.5 hours. getting to the rapids isn’t needed and is maybe 3-3.5 hours of that. Great value accomodation on the tiger leaping gorge trail, clean and comfortable. Views from the terrace were great. Only thing I'd say is the café upstairs was pretty expensive, but understandable given the location.

This was the perfect stop over during the two day tiger leaping gorge trek. I was pretty slow on my first day so was good to be able to stop half way! Big positive of this hostel is the viewing platform, where you can also enjoy some amazing stars at night. The caffè Is pretty pricey, but still worth it considering the location. I got upgraded to a better room which was nice.

We stayed at the 2 beds room It was amazing, the location is perfect for the Leaping tiger route , we had around 3 hours to finish on the second day The views are so good!! And they have a nice restaurant as well

The old tea horse guest house is located on the higher tiger leaping gorge trail. The rooms are basic and equipped with essentials and the restaurant is good, with many options. It is comfortable and as advertised.

Obviously the view is fantastic here and I do think this is a much better spot to stay than further down the trail - the walk towards the next village (where Halfway House is) is stunning in the morning. The room was fine and served a purpose - but it was quite expensive for what it was and the hotel have obviously capitalised on being well known in the area. I came here in 2009 and it was basically just one building - now it’s like an entire resort! Service was fairly transactional and it was heaving. The food was fine but nothing special. There are some other guesthouses less than 5 mins walk away further down the road that I imagine are quieter and cheaper if that’s what you’re looking for.

For English speaking tourists, Tea Horse and Half Way are best accommodations located in Senic view area of Tiger Leaping Gorge. To be honest, Tea Horse was my second choice because I did not get a room in Half away on selected date. During my return trip to Lijiang, there was a delay of booked taxi driver coming to the mountain. Tea Horse management lady personally called driver. She even arranged with Tea Horse staff for sending me to to meet with booked driver on the way from Lijiang to TLG. It has saved about one hour of travel time. I am grateful for her support, responsibility and understanding. Only negative point was bath room door could not shut while taking shower and using toilet. As a solo traveler I did not have big issue for bathroom door was not closing. Overall it is decent and westernised room with modern facilities. Heating for shower was fast and convenient as well. Recommended for serious hikers.

The room was excellent, offering great value for money at around 40 yuan in such a remote area. They even provided disposable toothbrushes, shampoo, and body wash. Perhaps because it wasn't busy, they gave me a quad room, which is essentially an upgrade. The hot water came on quickly, making for a comfortable shower. Food prices were also reasonable. Overall, it was a good experience.

Very nice rooms and helpful staff, even got an upgrade to a single room for free! In my opinion, also the best point to cut the hike in half, has a reasonably priced restaurant and cafe with gorgeous views! Will definitely come back here if i ever hile the Tigerleaping Gorge again.

If you're looking for somewhere to stay while doing a 2-day hike. This is the best. The view from here…. So stunning. Don't miss it.
