Shantou Wuxiangju Homestay

We spent two nights at the Shantou Wuxiangju and really enjoyed having the entire ancient house to ourselves. The garden and pond are beautifully maintained, and the location is perfect—right in the middle of countless great eateries. Bottled water was provided and replenished daily. Just keep in mind this isn't five-star luxury: the pillows are quite soft and flat (which might not suit everyone), and many mosquitoes. They do help with luggage via motorbike from a drop-off point about two minutes away (look for the pin at 和记牛肉粿条汤). Overall, a charming and authentic stay.

Place is as pretty as photos. Surrounding is quite and relax. Quite a few of cheap and good food near by. Place is clean and cozy. If you don’t like disposable towel. Remember to bring in your own towel. It would be perfect if there is a kitchen. Boss and staff are really friendly and helpful. Boss is extremely responsive too. He recommended good food and good driver.

My recent visit to this traditional 四合院 , and it was honestly one of the most memorable travel experiences I’ve had. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by how beautifully the space preserved its classic architectural charm—wooden beams, tiled roofs, and a peaceful inner courtyard that felt like stepping back in time. Despite its historical feel, the amenities were modern and comfortable, with clean rooms, cozy bedding, and thoughtful touches throughout. What really stood out was the atmosphere. The courtyard created a quiet, serene environment, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. Sitting there in the morning with a cup of tea or in the evening under soft lighting felt incredibly special. Although the first night had quite a lot of mosquitoes, the electrical mosquito repellent provided was very effective and made a big difference for the rest of the stay. If you’re looking for something beyond a standard hotel and want a more cultural, immersive experience, I highly recommend trying a 四合院 homestay. It’s a unique way to connect with traditional living while still enjoying modern comfort.
