My experience at the Shangri-La Hotel Shenzhen was a huge disappointment, completely unworthy of its five-star rating.
Regarding the environment: The baseboards in the corners were cracked and coming undone, the wall seams were rough and uneven, the floor gaps were filled with dust and blackened, and the outlet covers were loose and crooked. The overall decor felt old and poorly maintained, showing a complete lack of attention to detail. There was even dust and hair on the floor that hadn't been cleaned, truly reflecting a poor standard of cleanliness.
Front desk service: The staff member checking me in late at night was cold and unhelpful. For the two rooms I booked, the front desk insisted on an extra charge of over 100 RMB per person for two people, despite my booking being for one room with two occupants. They were completely unprofessional about their own hotel's booking policies, and the check-in process dragged on for a long time. This is far from the professionalism expected of a five-star hotel.
Dining experience: The hot dishes at breakfast were lukewarm, the fruit wasn't fresh, and the coffee was bland. Even the cutlery had water stains. This simply doesn't justify the high price.
This stay has redefined my lowest expectations for a high-end hotel. I will not be returning.
