We'd stayed at the Albright Hussey a couple of times before. Admittedly it had been a few years ago but we previously great experiences on both visits. I had high hopes of getting the same when I booked an overnight stay with the intention of having a meal too for our wedding anniversary. I first looked on their website to see if booking direct was a cheaper option. It wasn't, so I booked via ***********, not realising at the time that the booking was not refundable. When on the website I was drawn to their steak night page, which proudly proclaimed, "Steak night at the Manor is Back for 2023" and "Saturday night is Steak Night." Sounded great I thought, so I immediately emailed them to reserve a table and to ask how to pay our deposit. After receiving no reply to the email, the next day I sent them an identical message via ***********, which was also ignored. However, I did get a stock message regarding "dinning", containing a link to their website, saying,"For a Friday, Saturday & Sunday evening please check if we are serving food as due to other events the dinning room is not always open." Really? Of course, by that time it was academic anyway because I had already booked and couldn't cancel. Eventually, my wife ended up having to phone them to get a response and of course on the night of our stay there was a private event. Not only was there no Steak Night, the restaurant would not be open to guests at all! Unbelievable! According to other reviews, this appears to be a common complaint. We reluctantly turned up and went to our "Executive Double Ensuite" room with garden view. This room was directly above reception and not the one I had supposedly booked according to the picture on ***********. The view from our window was of the drive leading to reception. There was no way we had a view of the garden. All rooms are advertised as having a telephone, an alarm clock, radio, and tea/coffee maker. We got none of those in our room. We got what you would normally get in a Premier Inn, a kettle, some tea bags, instant coffee, milk capsules plus a couple of open loose coffee filters. Oh, and I forgot about room service, though quite how we were supposed to get that is anyone's guess, considering we had no phone in the room! The bathroom had black mould stains in the tile grout. The toilet had a seat that was clearly never designed to fit the shape of the one it was fixed to. The bathroom fittings were cheap plastic that looked as if they were straight from Aliexpress. The room was hot but there was no way to turn the heating off, so we opened the window to get some fresh air. Then we were subjected to loud chatter from people presumably from the private event congregating in the outside smoking area, which happened to be directly below our window. I think they need to make up their minds whether they are a hotel or an events venue offering accommodation because they are clearly incapable of providing both services at the same time.
