Village properties in Singapore

I’ve stayed at Village Hotel Katong a couple of times and it’s always been a pleasant experience. This round, I’m glad to see they’ve done some minor upgrades, especially the new TV and entertainment system. It’s a nice touch that made the stay even better. Overall, a great stay and I’ll be happy to return again.

The room was clean but had a strong mouldy smell. The cupboards had dark mould stains which remains after wiping off mould. Requested to change room as I could not breathe in the room. The new room was as better. But the next day after I came in from the fresh air outside; the smell was still unbearable. I checked out by lunch time and forfeited two days and one night as I could not stay and could not get a refund from the pre booking. The mould issue was lodged with the hotel but they acted as if they were not aware and insisted the rooms were clean. Unfortunately the room view from the replaced room could not overcome the health hazard of the mould. Wonder if Trip.com can raise this with the hotel & get some compensation for the unstayed night.

The hotel was better than expected. Although from the outside it doesn’t look like much. The staff couldn’t be anymore friendly or accommodating. The room was incredibly spacious and clean. All facilities were well kept and available to use. The location was ideal and easy to get around. I’d highly recommend.

Within a 10-minute walk to Little India. There are several hawker centers nearby where locals frequent. I recommend checking out the one at Albert Centre for a good meal. The hotel has some history, so the room facilities aren't super modern (e.g., no USB charging ports), but it's clean and the service is responsive to requests. There are bars near the hotel. If your room is on the 2nd floor, you might hear singing until 12 or 1 AM. If you're sensitive to noise, you can request a higher floor when checking in. Breakfast is a buffet. The variety isn't as extensive as a 4 or 5-star hotel, but it's acceptable. There's salad, main dishes (pasta, fried rice), and options like congee that suit a Chinese palate. There's also some daily variation.

This hotel is great for families with kids. The location is excellent, close to the MRT station, Universal Studios, and the beach. The pool on the third floor is a lot of fun, and my child loved it. The indoor facilities are a bit old. On our first night, we stayed on the third floor, and there was a serious leak in the hallway outside our room. The smart toilet was broken, and in the other room, all the interior lights didn't work, only the entrance light and bathroom light. We were too tired, so we just washed up and rested. The next day, we moved to rooms on the fifth floor, and both were in perfect condition. The extra-large bed was very wide, likely two single beds pushed together, which is very convenient for those with babies. (Note: For children over 3 years old, extra charges apply for the breakfast buffet. They don't accept Alipay, WeChat, or cash, so make sure to bring your bank card.)
