Crowne Plaza Solihull

Family stayed at this lovely hotel and only had good positive experiences. We previously had a bad experience of Crowne Plaza elsewhere and this stay put our faith and trust into the group again. Will stay again and recommend for events and stays.
voco St. Johns Solihull, an IHG Hotel

This hotel is clean, the room is tidy, all the facilities are normal, no extra toiletries and slippers are provided. The room provides two glass bottles of water and biscuit snacks. When I checked in that night, the path before entering the hotel in the lobby was rather dark, and there were plenty of parking spaces, but there was an additional charge of £10 per night. The location of the hotel was a bit quiet, but there were several security guards patrolling the hotel entrance. The price of hotel dinner is not too expensive, and the taste is good. The hotel breakfast has a variety of styles. Seats are comfortable. The overall hotel is cost-effective. It is worth recommending.

Solihull Town Centre

We recently stayed here for 2 nights. Hotel lovely + newly renovated . Only problem inside the hotel room was lack of insulation between floor of room above + our ceiling. We were kept awake by guests in above room running up + down + general bad noise disturbance. Every sound from above can be heard so bad sleep for us night 1. Hotel staff helped by going to speak with the guests in room above. Night 2 new guests in room above who were quiet in comparison. Hotel and staff lovely top marks to them. Watch out with limited parking we got parking tickets + are going to contest them as there are signs in the hotel which indicate no charge till 10am.

Everything was very good food, staff , room etc I would have given it an even better score but I object to paying for car parking.
Hockley House

Having had a less than pleasant experience at a UK budget chain hotel, when we were on a road trip leading us back to Hockley Heath for an NEC exhibition, we decided to cancel the chain and rebook here due to the death of the restaurant at the chain. This hotel was a wonderful alternative - which by the way was 37% cheaper for two nights. Apparently it has changed hands and is trying (successfully) to up its game. Suffice it to say we won't ever be staying in the chain when visiting the NEC, but WILL return. As I mentioned our trip was part of a road trip from home, stop off at Harrogate, two days with friends near Edinburgh then back to Hockley Heath. At the end of a 7 hour trip (with stops) the last thing you want to do is to go on a meal search. This seemed to have an acceptable enough menu. We arrived about 1730 and found a newly decorated site, and a room with a bit more character than a chain (including a 6ft wide bed). The room was certainly acceptable, with what proved to be a very powerful shower, and all that you expect from those facilities. After relaxing for a while we went to have a drink and get dinner. As mentioned above, the menu was good enough, my wife had pork belly on mash with green beans and broccoli, whilst I had a medium rare 8oz sirloin with chips, onion rings, tomato & mushroom. Well, it was obvious when the food appeared that this had been prepared with care and attention by a proud chef. It was a revelation. Additionally, Courtney (front of house) has a wonderful cheerful but respectful disposition and was obviously proud of what she was doing. Two pints of Cornwall's best Doom Bar were great , and the whole lot was only less than £45! We don't breakfast, but on return after a day at the NEC, crashed before going to the restaurant for more Doom Bar, and another look at the menu, which this time included a weekly (Tuesday-Saturday) specials sheet as well as the pizzas. We both opted for pizza but there were many options. Lovely home made pizza went down well, and Courtney was at her appropriately attentive best. Apparently there has been a change of management, and the place is on the up. From our experience give them a try. We will most certainly return!
