The hotel room is very small, unlike domestic hotels, and the price/performance ratio is very poor. The two white female front desk staff are ******. The room seems to be monitored. As long as a third person appears in the room during the day, we will soon be called to ask us to ask the third person to exit. Room!

It's just a better B&B, but to be honest I can't appreciate it. There is one room in one building, and the restaurant is downstairs.

It's a Relais & Châteaux hotel, but this was the only room available when I made the reservation. I didn't expect it to be so small. If you can afford it, book a larger one. It's comfortable to stay in and there's a Michelin restaurant downstairs.

We booked the lake house for one night and the spa lodge for 2 nights Loved both experiences The only negative thing about the lake house spa suite was the hot tub cover which really needed replacing but apart from that everything else was stunning we were given a warm welcome and the views and the facilities amazing Breakfast in room was a plus Then we moved onto the spa lodges for 2 nights again stunning Everything there that we needed Staff at brekfast were friendly and welcoming The spa was beautiful and I loved my treatment Only one downside really and that’s the service charge I think at the 2300 we paid for 3 nights was more than enough to pay and a service charge made me feel a little bit embrassed having to ask to remove it , I hadn’t been made aware this was added on booking But we will be back hopefully over Xmas

Pricey for sure but always good. We usually take a garden suit but as this was a quick last minute stay we had to take a garden room. Again the quality of the room was excellent and the bed is just so comfy. Small hot tub outside is fun and very private. Breakfast is always a brilliant event here may I add. We ate in Gilpin Spice - just incredible. Love the fact this is in the lakes and parking ain’t an issue. Lots of easy fabulous walks to and from this place

I took my partner to Gilpin for his 40th birthday (2 nights) as I wanted a nice hotel within easy driving distance to L'Enclume and really wanted the weekend to be perfect. I must admit I'd read a lot of reviews and there were some negative comments so I was worried it would fall short of expectations. But I was so wrong - it appears that these issues must have been resolved. Everything I requested via email prior to arrival was accommodated: the spa lodge I wanted (Maglona - highly recommended), the specific seats at Spice (counterside sofas - again highly recommended), taxi to L'Enclume, and spa treatments. The guest experience was seamless: the staff were conscientious and attentive over every detail and the team coordinated everything really well (parking our car, recommending the best walks, turndowns etc) I can't fault anything other than the fact that due to its setup you can't have both the sauna and steam room running at the same time in the spa lodge, but that's a first-world problem if ever there was one. The well-placed speakers were a great touch - by the hot tub, in the sauna and steam room. Our spa lodge was super cosy with beautiful interiors including a glass fireplace. We could've happily holed up there for the entire stay. Our spa treatments were probably the best we've ever had: Indian head massage and deep muscle massage. Do not skip a spa visit if you come! We loved our meal at Spice - it's a really vibey restaurant and the food was delicious, original and surprisingly reasonably priced. Room service breakfast was lovely too and beautifully presented. It's rare that I want to go back to a place I've been to before but we're already talking about coming back in the summer and doing a third night so we can make use of everything the hotel has to offer, including Source. It IS very expensive but we really had a seamless five-star experience so it justifies the price point. Big shoutout to the whole team for an unforgettable birthday weekend that has won me MAJOR brownie points!

This hotel far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a beautuful Spa Suite, a stunning private detached lodge with lovely views, and fantastically equipped including a steam room, sauna, massage/wellness room. The open plan living/dining/ bathroom area had a gas real flame fire, and large wall mounted smart tv with Sky TV, his and her showers and hand basins, a large bowl shaped bath. Bath robes and slippers were supplied as well as robes to be used in the spa area of the lodge. The room was cleaned daily, and serviced twice a day with the quality towels changed on each occasion. Tea, coffee and biscuits were replenished twice daily. We had a well-stocked mini-bar. The bedroom overlooked our own miniature tarn. Outside was an ample deck area with large hot tub. The underfloor heating kept us warm during the freezing weather and storm over our time there. Transport to and from our accommodation to the main hotel building and restaurants is provided at any time, if required. From our first minute of arrival, to checking out, the professionalism, efficiency and friendliness of all staff was outstanding. The food, drink and service in both Source and Spice restaurants was of the highest quality. Breakfast choice was extensive and, again, high quality. The 80 minute couples massage, we had in the hotel's own spa, was heavenly. The extensive grounds provide ample walks and feature pot bellied pigs and Llamas. We have stayed in a number of 5 star hotels around the world. The Gilpin is unsurpassed.

The newly refurbished restaurant is a fabulous space and a great place to eat. The food as ever was stunning and the service and attention to detail was exemplary. Still the best luxury Hotel in the Lakes and one of the finest restaurants. Can’t recommend it enough
