TownePlace Suites York

York is not a nice area, but seems to be a mecca of sports facilities, so there are a great number of hotels along what I affectionately call "skid row", and then there are the Courtyard and TownPlace Suites, which almost share land as they're right next door to each other. As a Marriott loyalist, I always seek out their brands. There is a Four Points on skid row - but the reviews there speak for themselves. We've stayed at the Courtyard several times, and it's okay - just passable, but okay. However, the demand-based pricing was absurd for this trip, and they wanted over $400 per night. Sorry, not even considering paying that much for the Courtyard when it's just barely acceptable as a $150/night hotel. Hence why I stayed at the TownPlace. I normally avoid them as they're the runt of the litter for Marriott - you only even get half the points for stays there, which usually surprises people. My rate wasn't horrible, but when balanced with the experience, it was robbery. Oh, the noisy train right outside the hotel was a nice plus (insert sarcasm here). The staff were not helpful. Even with significant lead time, they were not able to meet simple requests. Then, there were disturbances by both guests and staff at the door. I didn't feel safe, and I won't stay at this property again at any price. Marriott franchisees, are you listening? You have a great opportunity to put a clean, well-run hotel in a better area in York.

This property is very poorly managed and several things occurred/went wrong that made our stay unpleasant. First, we booked the 2 bedroom suite months in advance for 6 people for a volleyball tournament (1 adult, 5 teenage boys). I called the hotel the day before arriving and they confirmed my reservation and that the 2 bedroom suite would accommodate all 6 of us. Upon arrival, I was given the excuse that the 2 bedroom suite we were supposed to be in was soiled and they couldn't accommodate us in that room. Instead, they put us in 2 separate king rooms. This was not ideal as I was responsible for the 5 boys traveling with me and was not at all comfortable having the teen boys in a separate room without adult supervision. The hotel staff didn't offer any other solutions (1 bedroom suite with rollaway beds). I overheard them offer other guests other solutions and also held rooms at a nearby Courtyard for those guests, however, they offered us no alternate solutions. We had no other choice but to accept the 2 rooms with the possibility of getting a 2 bedroom suite for the 2nd night. The staff at the front desk complained openly about Marriott Bonvoy "overselling the hotel" and they didn't have enough rooms for the amount of people that were booked. The following day, I witnessed/heard loud noises and yelling coming from outside my window. One of the female property managers was in a violent screaming match with several male workers. Lots of expletives and threats yelled between all of them. It was extremely unprofessional and also extremely unsettling. I quickly let the boys know not to go outside as I was honestly worried for their safety. I also told them not to leave their room without adult supervision because of this altercation and the threats yelled outside my window. My husband and I frequently stay in Marriott properties and actually prefer them because of the Bonvoy benefits and most Marriott properties we've stayed in are clean, well managed, and safe. We will never stay at this TownePlace Suites again. Marriott should look into how this hotel is being run for the sake of their future guests. They should also look into the violent altercation that I witnessed between the property manager and several workers as a hotel guest should never hear or witness that type of unsettling behavior. I was worried for the safety of the female manager as well as the boys that I was responsible for caring for that weekend. Do better Marriott.

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The fact that it is a Marriott is a disgrace to the brand. We stood in a line in the lobby for over an hour to check in only to be given a dirty room. We were promised that our bathroom would be cleaned today and it was not. Furthermore on of the two staff on site was clearly high on something and could not even complete a sentence. I have never witnessed anything so unpleasant and unprofessional at a hotel.

When checking in, it took over an hour. The hotel was completely booked due to a few tournaments in town. They only had one employee at the front desk. She as lovely but so overwhelmed!

The place is really rundown and the rooms are due for an improvement. There was a fridge in the room but it made loud noises. Roof had water bubbles. Saw tiles that were broken. Bathroom is also small

Dave checked us in & was very welcoming & friendly! The property and room was very clean, lots of restaurants close by.

The staff was very friendly and gave us supplies so that our daughter could soak her foot after her basketball game. The room was very spacious. The location was also a bonus. Close to everything we needed!

It took forever to check in. My husband and I actually went and sat down while she figured it out. There were ants everywhere in the room. Other than that it was fine
