Lovely country house hotel on the southern edge of Aberdeen with easy access to city.
Welcoming hotel with a very traditional feel in the main building. Bedrooms are modern and our Standard room was well equipped with a large double bed and plenty of tea coffee etc. The hotel is dog friendly for a small charge. We had lovely cooked breakfasts and continental also available. We ate breakfast in the drawing room, as dogs understandably not allowed in main restaurant. We only ate in the bar area one evening which was cosy and fast service. Friendly staff and nice touch of a Birthday platter delivered to room in recognition of a significant Birthday being celebrated.

My partner took me to the Cove Bay Hotel to celebrate my birthday. I was really looking forward to it. What a let down! We stood for a couple of minutes waiting to be seated. Behind us at the bar a waiter who was chatting to a barman called to us to ask if we had a reservation. My partner said yes and gave his name. The waiter said; ”You have to be out by 7.30!” Not very welcoming! He took us to our table gave us menus and took our drinks order and quickly disappeared. The drinks arrived. We closed our menus and waited for someone to take our order. We waited and waited and waited. Our table (number one) was in the corner just behind the swing doors to the kitchen. Staff frequently banged these doors coming out with plates of food. Most staff used their back or elbow to open the door but one waitress kicked the door every time she came through. This got very irritating for my partner who constantly had the door being kicked open and a flash of bright light from the kitchen. We were still waiting for someone to take our order and tried to catch the eye of a waiter or waitress but they all rushed past avoiding eye contact. Eventually I said ”Excuse me” to a waitress and asked if she would take our order. She said the waiter who was serving out table would have to do it and rushed off. We were starting to feel very unwelcome and ignored. The people at the table next to us were very noisy and we could clearly hear their loud conversation although this was not the fault of the Cove Bay Hotel. The waiter allocated to our table did come back but said he had two or three orders to take before taking ours and rushed off. It seemed staff did not want to be there and could not wait to get away from us. Finally the waiter came back to take our order. My partner would have had the pie but on enquiring it is not a pie, it just has a pastry top. Instead he ordered a Thai fish dish which was on the specials board. I asked for my steak to be well done. A table of people arriving after us were served before us and we waited over an hour to get any food. My steak was a little pink for me as I like my steak well done and do not like to see blood. (Yes I know gourmets will say that steak should be eaten medium to medium rare but I prefer mine well done.) However after waiting so long to get any food I did not want to send it back and wait any longer and be out of sync with my partner. The meal was nice. My partner enjoyed his Thai fish dish which in addition to white fish had muscles and clams. The sauce was quite thin and therefore it was like trying to eat soup with a fork. A waitress came to clear our plates and asked my partner if he wanted a soup spoon for the sauce but it was too late then as it was cold. We were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu and we said yes. To be fair to the Cove Bay Hotel, the waitress said we could have the desserts free because we had had such a long wait. After our desserts a waitress asked if we wanted anything el

Recently stayed overnight for a wedding we were attending at the hotel. Staff were very attentive and welcoming. We received a free upgrade and the rooms were spotless.
Breakfast the following morning was more than adequate with the option of a full scottish along with an array of food for a continental breakfast.
I would have no hesitation staying at Norwood Hall again

Warm welcome from the member of staff who checked us in. Unfortunately I didnt get his name, but he was very well organised. He allowed our son to check in early. He arrived a day later than us after travelling all night. A room was made available for him so he could get his head down for a few hours. For the money we paid per room we thought it was very good value for money. Yes, bedroom furniture was a bit dated but the bed was comfortable and fresh linen. The rooms had everything you need in them. A bit of Maintenance is required in rooms, window catches in particular. Little more attention on high level cleaning (window frames) and around toilet bowl! Breakfast was served hot and plenty of it, continental breakfast was help yourself. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the name of the lad (member of staff) who checked us in but he was there most of the time, we were there (3 days), he was on reception, on the bar, serving food, just great with keeping everything flowing. We would definitely stay there again, location was great.

Great wee overnight stay so my daughter and I could go to Aberdeen Uni's open day. Handy location just off the motorway, and a short drive into Aberdeen centre.
We ate dinner at the Indian Brasserie across the road, which was very nice, and the hotel breakfast was standard fare and a reasonable choice.
Would recommend the hotel for a stay out with the hustle and bustle of the city- parking right outside the door, and a park and ride facility a short drive from the hotel.
Staff were helpful and pleasant, too. Checking in was straightforward, and so was check out.
Would return if I needed to visit Aberdeen in the future.

This is an incredible Lodge. We are spending 3 days here and our room is beautiful. Very very chic! The staff are super friendly. The property sits on the river last night. We had the most amazing cocktails, a negroni and a French martini. We sat on a swing for two and looked at the gorgeous River sipping our drinks before dinner. The lodge is an all-in-one package. It has everything you need. Including wonderful locally sourced food. The breakfast is included and it is scrumptious

What a gem! Not a beachside but we didn't pay for that. Value for money was unbelievable! For what we paid and the location, we are totally smitten. Such an inviting and convivial host. The welcoming fare was astonishing. A fridge full of fresh fruit and other treats. [Even 2x mini bottles of wine as great stay bon homme.] Nadarra wine & food bar (less than a 5 min walk was an unexpected surprise. Just nothing but a great inspirational upgrade to our vision of what this coast was from our memories. 2024 ”Top Notch” stay over following nostalgia and family historic origins. Not to be missed! [BTW I have no connections to the owner of this B&B or the newly opened Nadarra restaurant. & no renumeration for posting this. MM
GGuest UserI spent 4 nights at Rooms at 31 whilst visiting family in the area. It is ideally situated within Stonehaven, a short walk to the seafront and a pleasant (but steep) walk to the war memorial and Dunottar Castle.
Stonehaven itself has everything you might need for a short stay: places to eat, groceries etc.
Rooms at 31 was clean and adequate for my needs. There were a few minor issues in the room which I have already contacted the owner about, but this did not adversely affect my stay.
Breakfast is a self-serve affair with access to cereals, bread/toast, packaged morning goods, hot drinks and juice. The advantage of this set-up is that you can have breakfast at any time and it's not restricted to limited serving times as you would usually have in a B&B.
It would have been useful to have had a mini fridge in the room, and access to a microwave, perhaps, for being able to heat food when eating out is not possible/desirable. It would also have been nice to feel that the breakfast room was usable outside of breakfast instead of feeling I needed to eat my takeaway in my room.
Overall, I found the stay rather impersonal, not seeing anyone else for my entire stay, except for a very short encounter one morning in the breakfast room with whom I suspected may have been the owner. If I hadn't been visiting family, it would have been a rather lonely stay. This is not a fault, merely my preference. I can see how it would work well for businesses travellers or anyone who prefers the self-checkout in a supermarket and not dealing with other human beings!
