Wedding venue booked here and cancelled due to poor service. Rooms were available online the nights before the wedding heavily discounted, however when I booked through the manager we were charged nearly £400 more than quoted online for exactly the same rooms (seeing as were were spending over £8k+ you would think the rooms would be discounted due to do it being a part of the wedding) Contract terms and conditions were never sent so after being refused our deposit back, we ended up taking the Royal Arms to a small claims court. The Royal Arms refused the initial court claim and asked for mediation, mediation was done and we were offered £250 by the Royal Arms, this was refused by us. Witness statements & evidence provided to the courts and a hearing date was sent. It was only when we recieved the letter to confirm the hearing date were we offered out deposit of £500 back. I would encourage anyone booking a wedding venue here to make sure a contract is sent over stating the terms and conditions. At no point were we told the deposit was non refundable, we also gave over 15 months notice and were told after we were refused our deposit back that all other correspondence would be through the Royal Arms legal department?? We heard great things about this venue and we were truly looking forward to spending out day here, however the experience was poor and management was extremely rude. We will never recommend this establishment, nor me visiting again. Utter shambles and we have been put through hell. It cost me £50 for the small claims court, but it's the best £50 I have spent. We had the courage to follow this through as we believed we had the right to fight for something that was wrong and it paid off. We were lucky enough to get our deposit back! BUT we had to fight for it.
