This was the hotel I enjoyed most during my trip to Japan (the other two were also very good). It's a newly renovated hot spring hotel right on the shores of Lake Suwa.
Facilities: The hotel offers a one-night stay with two meals, with breakfast and dinner included in the room rate. There's an indoor onsen on the 6th floor and another terrace onsen with a lake view. They have red and white baths, hence the name "Red and White." The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, where we serve breakfast and dinner. The first floor is also spacious and clean, with a welcome glass of sparkling water.
Cleanliness: Every room was spotless, especially the onsen area.
Ambience: Because it's located on the lake, most rooms offer a lake view. Our room was the smallest in the hotel, but it was spacious enough for two people (it could sleep up to four). The lake view is a bit off-center, but you can still see a bit. Just across the street from the hotel is the lake, and hotel guests can take a free boat ride. The boats are rarely crowded, and the scenery is truly beautiful. In August, in addition to the famous Lake Suwa Fireworks Festival, there's also a 10-minute fireworks display every evening, visible from the lakeside.
Service: The service was excellent. Mr. Lee (or Li), a Chinese-speaking staff member in the restaurant on the second floor, was truly wonderful. His detailed explanation of the dinner provided a deeper understanding of the ingredients and cooking methods for each dish. After dinner, we headed up the mountain to watch the sunset (the setting for Lake Itomori in "Your Name"), and since it wasn't easy to get a taxi down, the hotel provided flashlights for us. They also helped us get a taxi the next morning. Overall, this is a hot spring hotel with excellent service.
Highly recommended!
