The room is normal, there are single rooms and standard rooms, the room has a washbasin, the shower and toilet are shared outside, the elevator door is interesting, it is the manual door of a hundred years ago

The hotel facilities are old and resemble the decoration style of the 1960s and 1970s. There is a bar downstairs which is very noisy at night. The windows cannot be closed and the carpet has a musty smell. I don't know how long it has been since it was washed. The public restroom is quite clean. The only advantage is that it is convenient to go anywhere in the city center.

No matter how bad I booked an accommodation, I tried to sleep because it was a waste of money, but here I checked in and left as soon as I saw the room, money and all. There is no such thing as basic cleanliness, and it is at the level of giving out an old room that has not been touched by humans. It is also criticized for listing this as an accommodation on the app for an accommodation that is not even as good as a cheap hostel. I'm so mad at getting this money, I can't sleep even if I just go to sleep. The worst accommodation I've ever stayed in. Please don't waste your money.

It was nice to be near the Opera House. Because they are very friendly people feels good. I had a chicken sandwich and beer. The food was good because it was prepared with care and not expensive.

Generally good, the public bathroom is very clean, there is no elevator, but the front desk helps to carry the luggage, and no one can handle check-out or check-in until nine o'clock in the morning.

Dirty room without aircondition. Old dirty carpet with insects (møl), bad smell and broken lamp/bad light. As the rooms are related to a bar down stairs floors were greasy from old beer, banana flies and lots of noise till late. Finally, the owner and staff were unpleasant. Most likely among the worst places I have tried. Even made my daughter cry.

We were staying nearby at the Radisson Blu Hotel and wanted to try some pub food for dinner. A hotel attendant suggested this place around the corner. We checked out the menu online and it seemed okay. I'm not sure if it's a real hotel or not, but we went there to eat. When we got to the pub, we visited all three floors and couldn't find a place to sit. We decided to leave, but on our way down checked the first floor again for a table. Alas, there was one being vacated. It is a pub, and it seems to be popular for the after-work crowd. So, it's very noisy but still possible to have a conversation. We ordered the calamari appetizer; the lamb mince pie that came with mashed potatoes, gravy, and peas; and the fish and chips that also came with peas. The calamari was hot and crispy and very delicious. The fish and chips were really good. But the fish really needed some malt vinegar, something they don't offer. The mince pie was divine, succulent and seasoned just right. The best thing, though, were the chips (AKA French fries). They're probably the best French fries I've ever had. Apparently they're bought frozen, fried, and then coated in some sort of salt and seasoning before being served. I scarfed down more than my share without any ketchup (also not available). The appetizer and two meals cost about 70 Australian dollars. Probably cheaper than a couple of drinks (which seemed to average more than $20 each). We made sure to drop a 10-note in the tip jar for the very friendly and efficient staff.

Very run down and basic. My room had stains, wet carpet and a sink that got water everywhere and the shared bathrooms and showers aren't in the best conditions at all. I didn't feel comfortable using them and then had to wait a while to have a shower. The lift was hard to use so we mainly used the stairs, which is not great if you have luggage and mobility issues. The staff were lovely though and the location is brilliant.

After a 9hr international flight I came to try and acquire a room for the night. I must admit I came two hours before check in in the hope of checking early which was (somewhat understandly) denied. However the staff here were disinterested and hardly compassionate. The manner and tone of the man (who I assume was manager) who interacted with could be described as gruff and demeaning. Having come from Asia were friendliness and quality customer service is the norm at hotels 1 tenth of the price of The Grand, I found this off putting and soured my stay. The room itself was clean and basic though sufficient for a few nights rest but a smile, some hospitality and a warm welcome could have made my stay so much better.

Fantastic location, fantastic price! Worn, but immaculatly clean. Delightful people, tiny pub on street level, larger one with nice menu up a floor. The street noise mentioned in all the other reviews was an issue due to construction, which was all over downtown, but what city doesn't have construction. Many huge historical pictures with explanations lined the streets. Breakfast room, pool table, nice little extras we didn't expect. We love unique, so The Grand suited us.

Given how expensive Sydney CBD accommodation is, this is an option to consider. Accommodation is at a pub, where you need to check in at the ground floor bar. The bar is staffed from 8am, where you need to make arrangements if checking out earlier. The accommodation levels are levels 3, 4 and 5. On level 3 there is a breakfast area, where you have free breakfast cereal using the small long life milk cartons, bowls (you need to wash them after use), and disposable plastic cutlery. Hotel guests also have 10% off pub food / beverages, where happy hour drinks prices were good value. Positives: Price, private room with basin, fridge, TV, window, towels / shampoo. No security concerns. Hotel is very close to Wynyard Station (using George Street exit) for easy airport access. One way train ticket from domestic airport using my credit card to tap on / off cost $19.53 (do not need an Opal card). There is a shared shower / bath area and shared toilet, which seemed to be empty when I needed to use them. Very impressed at how clean these were. Negatives: lift was not working, so not ideal if you have mobility issues hauling luggage up the stairs. Room did not seem to have heating - I had a warm hoodie which I was glad I had. Room does not also have a table / chair if you want to do work or sit. Room lighting was a bit dim - only 1 room light. There is also a bit of street noise (not an issue for me, but for those who are more sensitive). Not much privacy where my room looked straight into offices and curtains in my room were difficult to fully shut. Overall I would stay again for a cheap CBD solo stay, particularly if I only needed to use the room to leave luggage and sleep.
