The hotel has a shuttle bus to and from JR Takayama Station. If the weather is good, it's not too far to walk there. Breakfast and dinner were both great, Hida Beef Zetsuko!

The food and hot springs were wonderful. Do you have less dinner? I thought it was a very satisfying amount. The explanation was polite and I was able to enjoy the meal. Breakfast was also very good. I have changed. It was nice to be able to enjoy both because there is a change in the bath.

We had an exceptional experience at this hotel, where the culinary delights took center stage. The kaiseki menus, impressively vast in size, were served in private rooms, adding a touch of exclusivity to our dining experience. The service was truly outstanding, with a dedicated staff member catering to our needs throughout our stay. One of the highlights was the private onsens available from our room, providing a serene and relaxing escape. It added an extra layer of luxury to our stay, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A thoughtful touch we appreciated was finding our shoes neatly arranged each morning as we left the hotel for the day. It showcased the meticulous attention to detail that characterized our entire stay. In summary, this hotel is a gem, offering not only delectable cuisine with expansive kaiseki menus but also exceptional service and thoughtful amenities. The private onsens and the attention to detail, such as the neatly arranged shoes, contributed to a truly wonderful experience. Highly recommended for those seeking a memorable and luxurious stay

The meandering path through the bonsai garden says “you are home”. Upon arrival the staff line up to bow respectfully and you are assigned a personal valet. Traditionally Japanese with tatami mats throughout and a luxurious onsen with outdoor and indoor pools, sauna and cold plunge. There’s also a hot foot bath next to the koi ponds. Meals are exquisite with a couple of choices for each meal. Rooms are traditional with a bathtub and shower. The view is nice, especially for being in the city. Well worth the cost.

We loved this ryokan. Admittedly we stayed in a western style suite which was absolutely gorgeous with extremely comfortable beds and spectacular finishings in the room, within a ryokan with all the traditional trappings - the onsen baths, a beautiful pond, private rooms for Japanese-style meals, etc. The service, food, ambience, etc. were all superb. The ryokan is not in Old Town but there's a continuous shuttle so it's easily accessible. This place was an absolute delight in every way.

Great ryokan in a place that was way more touristy than I expected. Great food, very heavy on Hide beef, and huge size kaiseki menus, so be aware and perhaps ask them to scale down a bit in advance. Impeccable service, cleanliness, food, shuttle from and to the ryokan. One thing to point out is the quality of the water of the onsen, one of the greatest I've ever experienced. I would have loved for the men / women onsen to be switched on days vs morning / evening though.

The service of the hotel was impeccable. Staff were friendly and food was superb. The manager was very helpful when we asked for some ideas on where to go. For non English speaking staff, they tried their best to understand us and catered to our requests so we really appreciate it! Not to forget, the onsen was also great with 2 outdoor bath and one indoor bath.

This traditional style accommodation was exactly what our family of 8, including an infant, needed after a long trip from home to Tokyo the day prior. We traveled by train from Tokyo in the mid day to arrive around dinner time. From the moment we were picked up at the train station in Takayama until we left 2 days later, we felt very pampered, well fed, well rested, and relaxed. As you leave the van to enter the traditional style accommodation, you breathe in fresh mountain air and are surrounded by visual beauty, with integration of the landscaping, building, and decor making you smile and feel joyful. As you remove your shoes and don the special socks that are offered, the offering of coffee or other beverages appropriate to the time of the day, in the lobby area, helps you to just unwind. Our rooms were traditional style with tatami mats and bed futons laid out at night. The onsen, hot baths, were incredible and I enjoyed going at least once each day, sometimes twice, to see the gorgeous scenery presented in both venues (men and women bathe separately and the rooms are switched each day so that you can enjoy both venues). It was my first experience with an onsen, and it was by far the best on our entire trip - the water was so soft and luxurious, the outdoor "scene" so zen, and the commitment to quiet was divine. We found the experience with breakfast and dinner, in our own dining room together, so remarkable with multiple courses at dinner, each described in detail and the breakfast included a map of everything in front of us (for those who chose the Japanese breakfast option). The Western option included eggs and bacon, which wasn't clear in our travel itinerary from our tour provider, so we were pleasantly surprised to have that in addition to bread, jam, fruit and vegetables. For our family members with allergies, they were fantastic to accommodate us so that everyone had something good and filling to eat. We slept well and were so refreshed in the mornings. There was so much attention to detail and so much to enjoy at the facility that it was hard to break away to explore the local village - but we did, and we loved that as well, including a hike to the top of one of the local peaks where we learned that they have bears in the Japanese Alps - so cool.
