Playa Avellanas Tree House with Exclusive Beach Access

Great Treehouse We stayed at the treehouse for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The location is very close to the beach and local shops/restaurants. Ben was very good at getting back to me for anything we needed. Loved having the host cats hang out with us.

March in the Tree House We spent all of March 2025 in the treehouse. Our host Ben is a great host. Very responsive, checked in on us routinely and was great at making transportation arrangements for us to go on excursions outside the are. The house was clean when we arrived and the bed was very comfortable. The air in the bedroom worked well and allowed comfortable sleep during very warm days. If you are seeking luxury, the treehouse is not for you. It is a bit primitive and minimalistic. But if you want quiet relaxation and want a beautiful covered second story outdoor veranda, this is the place. There were 2 markets within walking distance and so were multiple restaurants and cafes with a bonus gelato store right next door. The beach was about a 20 minute walk on a boardwalk through the mangroves. The boardwalk is a bit rustic and did have multiple trip hazards so care should be taken. But very doable for us. We enjoyed many sunsets on the Pacific shore. We loved our time in The CR. Thanks Ben for a great time away.

I hope this helps someone not make the mistake we did. We didn’t expect luxury, but we also didn’t expect this property to be outright unlivable. While Ben was polite over email and text, our experience at his rental was nothing short of terrible.The layout of the place is interesting, but the cleanliness was appalling. Dead cockroaches on the floor, red ants overtaking the bathroom, and a general sense of neglect made it feel dirty and uncomfortable. I’ve stayed in plenty of budget accommodations in Costa Rica over the years, so I know what to expect—but this was unacceptable.The real deal-breaker, however, was the overwhelming chemical fumes. The concrete bathroom floor had been very recently lacquered, and the downstairs reeked of fresh, toxic-smelling chemicals. The smell was so intense that staying in the unit was simply not safe, especially with our young children. Within an hour of checking in, we had no choice but to leave.When we contacted Ben—who was out of the country at the time—he admitted the floors had just been freshly sealed. At first, he agreed to issue a reasonable refund, but when it came time to follow through, he returned only a fraction of what we paid. The amount he refunded barely covered the cleaning and extra guest fees, let alone the cost of the stay. His refusal to fairly compensate us—despite acknowledging the problem—shows a complete disregard for his guests.There are far better places to stay in this town. If you care about cleanliness, safety, and an honest host, book anything else.

Family beach trip Great location near beautiful beach. Host Ben very helpful with everything including restaurant recommendations. Unique and different property for a vacation getaway.

Great time in Avellanas! Stayed here with 3 others and found the location to be very accommodating. The location fit our needs with respect to private parking, security, and location to the beach. We were also able to cook meals in the kitchen which added to the convenience. Avellanas is a great beach town and the beach was a short walk away. It was nice lounging around in the hammock and enjoying the scenery. I would gladly go back.
