Occidental Tamarindo - All Inclusive

We had a good time this place. Food and room were good. We recommend for good times with less money.

The rooms aren’t clean. The hotel itself is out dated. The first room they gave me was a king and I booked a double. The staff told me it’s at their discretion what they give. They then gave me a double. It was very dirty with stains on the sheets. They then switched me to another room. I woke up with ants in my bed. I was over it at this point.

The property was clean but dated. The staff were friendly, and helpful. Check in was painfully slow, and not enough staff on the front desk.

The resort is small and located close to Tamarindo. The buffet and snacks were about as expected for an all inclusive with fountain pop and water coolers in central locations. I would not call this a 5 star if you are comparing to Mexico. Its likely a 4 at best. The restaurants on site were ok..better food in town. There seems to be alot of locals who show up for the weekend so the pool and beach becomes very busy however during the week the place was dead. The drink selection is ok with plenty of off brand liquor and some decent premium liquor included but items like spiced rum was considered for vip and the cost of that extra is not worth it. AC works great in the rooms as does the mini fridge. The same tired live band plays twice a day and seems to only have one set. The entertainment is very plain and basic but the people are very friendly and were easy to deal with. We enjoyed the stay but spent more time in town enjoying what Tamarindo had to offer for food and drinks. The beach area and estuary were the best part of this resort. Lots of sand and the water rushing in and out of the estuary made it fun to hang around in to beat the heat.

The stuff at front desk was not friendly at all which was a bad start to our stay, employees are very quiet and would make you feel uncomfortable at times, Asian restaurant a big disappointment overall staff was ok at the end

Not for me..it’s more geared towards locals and families. Very limited food/drink choices and activities. Not worth the all inclusive price.

It’s a great budget resort. The “entertainment” staff was excellent. They bring great energy without being pushy. The gym needs help. Our sliding glass door was broken and couldn’t be locked. While at the pool, the smell of sewage was bad if the wind shifted.

The food was why I took off a star. Buffet same every day and not all That appealing but the reserve sushi and especially the Italian was dreadful. The Italian was below average ranging to actually not edible. From crunchy gnocchi soup to stale sprinkle on mushy tiramisu. Not good at all. Don't do it if you are going to serve tiny portions that are gross.

The Pacific Ocean outfront was a 10 out of 10 not a single other building anywhere that I can see 1 million shells beautiful waves… But the food on the other hand was a sad 6.5 out of 10.. I do wish you had more options. Available for dinner. Five nights at the buffet was way too much for staying 7 nights .. we found tons of restaurants a cab ride down the street… love the size of the resort it’s smaller scale, which makes it easier to get around.. Costa Rica is stunning..
